Alberta Phillips Day WELCH, W.Va. -- Alberta Phillips Day, 80, formerly of Jolo, W.Va.,. died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at the residence of her daughter, Patty Payne, Route 16 North, near Welch. Born in Capels, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late George and Sarah White Phillips. During World War II, Mrs. Day worked as a riveter in a plant in Detroit which manufactured war supplies. Also, she worked as a nurse aide at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Welch and was affiliated with the Premier Pentecostal Holiness Church at Premier. She was the widow of George T. Day Sr. Surviving are two daughters, Patty Payne of Welch, with whom she made her home for the past seven months, and Susie Bowers of Bristol Tennessee; one son, George T. Day Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Mary Payne of Indianapolis, Greta Roper of Midlothian, Ill., and Loretta Rose of Bluefield, W.Va.; one brother, Elwood Phillips of Rogersville, Ala; three grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and two great-grandsons. Jean Flanary RICHLANDS -- Mrs. Jean Bernice Baker Flanary, age 78, died Saturday, August 2, 2003, at a Claypool Hill, Virginia Retirement Facility following a lengthy illness. She was born in Smyth County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Grover C. and Lillian Anderson Baker. She was a long time resident of the Richlands area and was a member of the Hill Creek Baptist Church. She was a wonderful homemaker and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. R. G. "Bud" Flanary Jr. and two brothers, Mr. Max Baker and Mr. Beryl Baker. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Flanary Hahn and husband, Steve of Indianapolis and Mrs. Barbara Flanary Broom and husband, Alan of Mechanicsville, Va.; one son, Mr. Robert G. Myrtle Moore Jones Myrtle Moore Jones, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at St. Mary's Long Term Care in Norton. She was born Nov. 22, 1912, in Huckleberry, Va.,. a small community near Clintwood. For a short while in the late 30's and early 40's, she lived in the Grundy/Richlands area. She lived most of her life in Clintwood, where she operated a restaurant and boarding house and spent 10 years in Annandale, Va., where she worked as an LPN at Fairfax Nursing Home. She was baptized and attended Valley View Freewill Baptist Church in Clintwood. She also attended her parent's church, the Cumberland Church of the Brethren, in the Ramey Flats area near Clintwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annias and Rhilda Mullins Moore; brother, Curtis Moore; sister, Ethel Moore Counts; her husband, Brownie Jones; and one son, Hoyt Blaine Stone. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Clarence Presley; and three sisters, Kathleen Ferguson, Ethel Bacon and Erma Smith. Mrs. Kiser was of the Baptist faith. She was a factory worker for 35 years. She is survived by her husband, Woodrow Kiser; one daughter, Gloria Sue Collins and husband, Charlie of Castlewood; one grandson, Charles W. Collins and wife, Susan of Castlewood; two great-grandchildren, Kalen and Drew Collins; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Phipps was born February 25, 1935, in Sullivan County, to the late William Ralph Hyatt and Annie Lucille Stine and was a life-long resident of the Bristol area. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Oliver and Pam Davis and husband Ronnie, all of Bristol Tennessee; one son, Larry Phipps, Bristol Tennessee; two brothers, Billy Hyatt and Eddie Hyatt, both of Bristol Tennessee; and three sisters, Charlene Littleford, Juanita Mitchell and Nancy Chapman, all of Bristol Tennessee. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Phipps was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Phipps, and a son, Robbie. Rasnake LEBANON -- Geraldine Fields Rasnake went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 1, 2003. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and nana. She retired after 18 years of service in the Lebanon High School cafeteria. A member of the Mt. View Community Church and a member of the Highlands Emmaus Community. A daughter of the late George A.
