He was born October 25, 1911, in Wise County on the head of Guest River to his parents, Joseph Lilburn Mullins and Mary Roberts Mullins. He was a retired coal miner from the Old Ben Coal Co. after 35 years of service, a member of the UMWA for 69 years, was very active in the Wise County Democratic Party and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Wise. He was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; one son-in-law, Thomas J. Elliott Sr.; two daughters-in-law, Thelma June Mullins and Karen Ann Mullins, and two grandsons, Joseph Troy Mullins III and Charles Jonathan Dean. Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Naomi Adams Mullins; two sons, Joseph Troy Mullins Jr. of Church Hill, Tenn., and James R. Graham Williams Sr. BRISTOL -- Graham Edward "Pete" Williams Sr. passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born on January 14, 1924, in Stonebruise, Lebanon, Va. He was the son of the late Samuel and Mattie Thomas Williams and had been in Bristol for most of his life. He was an Army Technician, Fifth Grade, Detachment Engineers Section, Alaskan Department and was inducted into service on April 5, 1943, in Abingdon. He received his basic training at Fort Belvoir, Va. He arrived at Attu in the Aleutian Islands, on October 5, 1943, and was qualified as a bulldozer operator and parts clerk. He returned to the United States on October 28, 1945, going to Fort Mead, Maryland. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon. After his military service, he served as a maintenance superintendent for Rutherford Freight Lines for 20 years and a salesman for Mack Truck in Charlotte, North Carolina, for 23 years. Mr. Williams was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and was baptized at Green Valley Baptist Church in Lebanon. Mr. Wright was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Robert Wright. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. William Arnold and Alan Baldwin officiating. Committal service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in High Point Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fred Scharff III, Eddie Wright, Andrew Wright, Kenneth McCulley, Eric Tranum and Lee Moulse. Honorary pallbearers are Scott and Hunter Tolbert.
