Dayton Ronald Emmert BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Dayton Ronald Emmert, age 81, of 1444 Vance Tank Road, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the Bristol Nursing Home, Bristol Tennessee. Mr. Emmert was a native and life long resident of the Bristol area. He was retired from the Bristol Tennessee School with 34 years of service and he was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Mr. Emmert was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Emmert and Rev. Claude Emmert. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Dayton and Brenda Emmert ; daughter, Mary Ellen Emmert; grandson, Ronnie Joe Rutherford and wife Teresa; great-grandson, Dakota Rutherford; sisters, Elsie Dunn and Dorothy Welch; and brothers, Jack Emmert and Bobby Emmert. She was formerly employed with Southern Pottery and Appalachian Garment and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Love Chapel Christian Church. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn. He was born in Gate City, on February 21, 1921, and grew up in Wise County, Va. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Headquarter Company 3rd Battalion 15th Infantry and saw action in Rome-Arno, southern France, Rhineland, and central Europe. He earned the Campaign Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. He retired from Looney's Chevrolet in Kingsport. Mr. McArthur was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church and a long time member of the chancel choir. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen Anne McArthur; sister, Helen Doggett; and brother, James "Trig" McArthur. Newton HILLSBORO, Va. -- David "Dave" Allen Newton died Monday, August 11, 2003, at his home. He was 62. Dave and his wife, Amy Marasco Newton, founded the Marasco Newton Group in Arlington, Va., a consulting firm specializing in offering solutions to environmental challenges with information technology and management. Dave served as executive vice-president. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Elmer Newton and Laura Celia Dreier, four brothers, Orbin, Ray, Jack and Tom, and four sisters, Eunice, Betty and Rosemary and Maureen. Dave is survived by his wife, Amy Marasco Newton of Hillsboro; his first wife, Barbara Hargroves, and son, Philip Newton; son, Philip Newton and wife Allyson of Abingdon; daughters, Jenifer Schmidt and husband Will of Easton, Md., and Kate DeRemer Snipes and husband Chris Snipes of Mexico City, Mexico. Watson TAZEWELL, Va. -- Reverend Walter W. Watson, age 91, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at the Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell. He was born in Idlewild, N.C., July 15, 1912, and was the son of the late Green and Zora Baker Watson. Rev. Watson has been in the pastoral capacity since the 1950's and was the pastor of First Church of God in North Tazewell, Va., for 37 years before retiring. He received his bachelor of theology from Berean Bible College in Oklahoma and served his clinical pastoral training at the Southwestern State Hospital. In addition to his pastoral work, he was a self- employed electrician and completed a master course in air conditioning, refrigeration and heating from NRI School in Washington, D.C. After retiring from the ministry, he attended the First Church of God in Bluefield, Va., where he was active in teaching Sunday School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; and four sisters. Survivors are: his beloved wife of 67 years, Mary E. Watson of Tazewell; one son, Mr. Connie Watson of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Conn and her husband Dwight of Tazewell; one sister, Mrs. Ida Hollander of Monrovia, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; along with a host of other friends; and three special caregivers, Aleen Hicks, Gail Vencill and Elsie Hagy also survive. Funeral services for Rev. Walter W. Watson will be conducted Saturday, August 16, at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, with the Rev. Roy L. Tincher and Rev.
