Trivette, 94, Bristol Tennessee -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edward Caudill Jr. CLEVELAND, Va. -- Edward (Ed) Caudill Jr., 73, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at his home. Born November 13, 1929, in Washington County, Va., a son of the late Edward Caudill and Annie Bott Caudill, he had lived in Russell County for the past 18 years. He was a retired employee of Burlington Mills in Bristol and was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Cleveland Lifesaving Crew. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elvia Quesenberry, Sylvia Caudill and Goldie Fields, and a stepson, Billy Ray Linkous. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Linkous Caudill; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Caudill Bain and Phillip Bain, St. Charles, Mo.; a son, Freddie Caudill, Mendota; two stepsons and their wives, Adam and Marlene Linkous and James and Nancy Linkous, all of Cleveland; a stepdaughter-in-law, Estella Linkous, Cleveland; three grandchildren, Michael Bain, Michelle Bain and Teresa Caudill; four step-grandchildren, Ray Linkous, Ryan Linkous, Kerensa Linkous and Rachel Linkous; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Bain, Alyssa Wallace, Nathan Wallace and Kelsey Caudill; three sisters, Belvia Riddle, Vivian Bellamy and Corabell Warren, all of Abingdon; two brothers, Calvin Caudill, Abingdon, and William (Frankie) Caudill, Front Royal, Va. He was a special papaw to Michael Moore, Shauna Musick and McKenna Musick; and a special friend and neighbor, Alfred Lambert. Also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2003, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Bobby Hobbs and Pastor Scott Suttle officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, where military honors will be conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post 9864. Emmert BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Dayton Ronald Emmert, age 81, of 1444 Vance Tank Road, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the Bristol Nursing Home, Bristol Tennessee. Mr. Emmert was a native and life long resident of the Bristol area. He was retired from the Bristol Tennessee School with 34 years of service and he was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Mr. Emmert was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Alma Louise Pendergrass Emmert, and two brothers, Fred Emmert and Rev. Claude Emmert. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Dayton and Brenda Emmert ; daughter, Mary Ellen Emmert; grandson, Ronnie Joe Rutherford and wife Teresa; great-grandson, Dakota Rutherford; sisters, Elsie Dunn and Dorothy Welch, and brothers, Jack Emmert and Bobby Emmert. Goodman, age 53, died Thursday in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. She was born in Tullahoma, Tenn., and was preceded in death by a daughter, Hannah Rachel Goodman. Phyllis Hoss Lane BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Phyllis Ann Hoss Lane, age 68, of 2600 Bay Street, went to be with the Lord Friday, August 15, 2003, in the Wellmont Hospice House. Mrs. Lane was born on June 4, 1935, in Bristol Virginia, a daughter to the late Clarence and Lillian Fadley Hoss. She had lived all her life in the Bristol area, was a housewife and a member of the True Faith Tabernacle Church. Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Lane; and by one son, Michael Doss. Mrs. Lane is survived by one daughter and special son-in-law, Sue Harless and husband John; one son and special daughter-in-law, Arlen Preston Doss and wife Cathy; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; special companion, Arthur Craft; special friends, Elaine and Ruth, and several nieces and nephews. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn. He was born in Gate City, on February 21, 1921, and grew up in Wise County, Va. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Headquarter Company 3rd Battalion 15th Infantry and saw action in Rome-Arno, southern France, Rhineland, and central Europe. He earned the Campaign Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. He retired from Looney's Chevrolet in Kingsport. Mr. McArthur was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church and a long time member of the chancel choir. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clarice Lane McArthur, a granddaughter, Karen Anne McArthur, sister, Helen Doggett, and brother, James "Trig" McArthur. Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Jane Johnson McArthur, Bristol Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Gary Swiney, Bristol Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law, John Mark and Nancy McArthur, Gate City; grandchildren, Stephanie Lipson and husband DeWayne, Lisa Lindsey and husband Kevin and Sarah McArthur; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Estepp, Gate City and Mary Lou Roberts, Weber City, Va., Margaret Day, Moncks Corner, S.C.; brother, Bobby McArthur, Weber City, and several nieces and nephews. Born February 3, 1926, in Buchanan County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Jacob Jessee and Martha Jane Street Jackson. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the Dry Fork Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bonsel Benton Robinson; one daughter, Draper Helton; five sisters, Ethel Boyd, Hazel Barton, Elsie Ball, Biddie Breeding and Mary Ratliff, and four brothers, Anthony Jackson, Clarence Jackson, Robert Jackson and Alex Jackson. Scott Taylor, 62, of Boozy Creek Road, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Scott County, Va., a son of the late Pete and Hazel Wilson Taylor, and grandson of Edgar and Virginia Taylor and Davis and Blanche Wilson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Taylor, and an infant twin brother. Scott was a livestock, ginseng, dog and dog supply dealer, an auctioneer and owned and operated Country Store of Gate City Highway for several years. He was kind, generous, loving, and is best remembered for his willingness and desire to help and share with people in any way he could. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Dean Taylor; sisters-in-law, Margaret Castle and Birdie Dean; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Kenneth and Marie Dean, Billy and Lou Call, Dale and Lakie Dean, Larry and Linda Dean and Buster and Louise Dean; an uncle, Kenneth Wilson; aunts, Ann, Jean and Peggy Wilson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
