He was born in Bristol, a son of the late Gordon and Anna Leona Stout Blaylock, and lived in Michigan for several years before returning to Bristol in 1992. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 25 of Novi, Mich., and attended Shiloh Baptist Church of Bristol Virginia. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosie Blaylock, and a brother, Jack Robert Blaylock. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Blaylock; a daughter, Alayne Williams, her husband, Michael, and their children, Haley, Nathan and Jonathan, of Oxford, Mich.; a son, Barrett Blaylock, his wife Carrie, and their daughter, Erin, of Maryville, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Kay Cassell, her husband, Brad, and children, Kelly and Cody Mangum, of Abingdon; a stepson, Gwyn Blaylock and his wife, Stephanie, of Bay City, Mich.; three sisters, Nettlea Hyatt and Marie Leonard, both of Lansing, Mich., and Bernice Riffey of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Jerry Blaylock of Juno, Alaska, and several nieces and nephews. Born in Scott County, Va., he had lived in Blountville since age 17. Mr. Grove was a good husband, father, grandfather and a true friend to all who knew him. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Co. with over 36 years and three months of service as a filter operator. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ray Grove and Geneva Bowlin Grove, four infant sisters and brothers, one brother, Foch B. Grove, and one sister, Lois Davenport. Holland Sr. JOHNSON CITY -- Carl Walker Holland Sr., 75, died Friday, August 15, 2003, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk, Va., and had lived in Johnson City since 1973. Mr. Walker was a son of the late William S. and Willie Elam Holland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jo Holland, by one brother, William Holland, and one sister, Ann Voyton. He received his B.S. degree from Virginia Tech, his master's degree from East Tennessee State University and his doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee. He was a retired administrator from East Tennessee State University. Mr. Holland was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. Jean Lui Phipps WISE -- Jean Lui Phipps, 87, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2003, in Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Clintwood on June 8, 1916, the daughter of Dr. R.L. Phipps and Toni Nidermaier Phipps. She was educated in local schools, the College of William & Mary and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. For many years she was associated with the original Dickenson County Hospital, which opened in 1930. Since 1991 she had lived in Wise with her sister, Carol Buchanan. In addition to her sister, she is survived by a very special friend, Versie Wells of Clintwood. The family will receive friends starting 12:30 until 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2003. Roy Glenford Snead SALTVILLE -- Mr. Roy Glenford Snead, who was born on April 14, 1915, died at the age of 88 on Sunday morning, August 17, 2003, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Perkins and Vince B. Snead, three sisters, Louetta Ferguson, Hester Boardwine and Lillian Snead, and one brother, Ralph Snead. He was a retired carpenter and builder and former employee of the Olin Corporation. He also loved Old Time Mountain Music. She was employed at Marion Laundry and Southwestern State Hospital in Marion for several years. She was a member of the Matson Drive Church of God and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Wright Dorothy Thomas Wright, age 90, a former resident of 417 Bluff City Highway, Bristol, Tenn., and a resident of Grand Court Retirement Community, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Ola J. and Mary Redwine Thomas and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. She was an employee of Parks Belk for 23 years and was a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church. Ms. Wright also served in the Border City Eastern Star and the Twin City Rebecca Lodge 102 of Bristol Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence F. "Red" Wright, a son, Bobby Wright, who passed away August 1, 2003, and a grandson, Chad Matthew Atkins. She was also preceded in death by three brothers. Survivors include daughters, LaVerne Wright Lynch of Bristol Tennessee, and DeAnna W.
