Survivors: wife of 61 years, Della R. Monk LEBANON, Va. -- Arnold Clifford (Jack) Monk, 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Born Aug. 7, 1920, in Russell County, a son of the late Jeff Monk and Ada Richardson Monk, he was the husband the late Minnie Stoots Monk. He was a well- known resident of Lebanon, a former two-term sheriff of Russell County and a former member of the Lebanon Town Council. A licensed funeral director, he was a former employee of Lebanon Funeral Home and Combs Funeral Service for many years. Jack will always be remembered by those throughout the community and surrounding areas for his many years of service to others as well as his firm handshake and ready smile for all those who encountered him. He has touched the lives of many and was greatly loved by all. He was long-standing member of the Lebanon Baptist Church, a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was part of the landing in Normandy. He was a member of Lebanon VFW Post 9864, the Lebanon Masonic Lodge 251 AF&AM, Johnson Commandery 14 Knights Templar, Castlewood Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and the Kazim Shrine Temple in Roanoke. He was a member of the Lebanon Kiwanis Club and was one of the original founders and served as the first captain of the Russell County Rescue Squad. He was also a long-time member of the Lebanon Lions Club and a charter member of the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department. An avid fisherman and loyal supporter of high school sports, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Hughes; and two brothers, Grady Monk and Jeff Monk Jr. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Estella Gilmer and Dr. Robert D. Taylor, of Bristol Virginia; and one brother, Scott Taylor. He was a very special person who was loved by all. He worked at the auto repair business he co-owned with his brother, Hiram, in Red Bank, N.J. for 29 years before retiring in 1978 and returning to the Bristol area. He attended Beulah Land Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Inez Taylor; two sons: Tony A. Taylor and his wife, Melba; and David J. Akard Funeral Home served the family of Buddy Wagner. Clyde J. Wann TAMPA, Fla. -- Clyde Joe Wann, age 68, died Aug. 21, 2003, in Tampa after a long battle with cancer. He was a native of Bristol Virginia, son of the late William H. and Zora Wann, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Wann, Pauline Warren and Kathleen Odle; and three brothers, Fred Wann, Harold Wann and W.E. Wann. He is survived by his wife, Kay Wann; and daughter, Darla; grandson, Daniel; sister, Peggy Spangler, Bristol Tennessee; and brother, Garland Wann, San Antonio, Texas.
