Born March 17, 1932, in Elkhorn City, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Dewey Ramey and Janie Castle Ramey Rowe and stepdaughter of Johnie Rowe. Mrs. Bentley was retired from the American Red Cross as the Wyoming County agent, a former employee of the G.C. Murphy Company and was a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church of Mullens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Bentley in 1963; an infant son, Randall Dwight Bentley; and a grandson, John Thomas "J.T." Bentley. Survivors include two sons: Rodney Bentley and his wife, Debbie of Beckley; and Danny Bentley and his wife, Anita of Castlewood; a granddaughter, Randi Moonik and her husband, David of Grandview; a grandson, Cody Bentley of Castlewood; one uncle, Alvin Castle; and several cousins and sisters-in-law. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens, with the Rev. Mike Toler officiating. Committal services and burial will be 4 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Memorial Park in Pikeville, Ky. Campbell DAMASCUS, Va. -- Erma L. Campbell, age 67, passed away on Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. She was a life long resident of Washington County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Bostic and Sarah Greer Fleenor. She was a certified nursing assistant and was a member of the Damascus Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Moose Lodge. Maude Hamilton WISE -- Maude Hamilton, age 92, passed away early Monday morning, Sept. 1, 2003, at Heritage Hall, in Big Stone Gap, Va. She was a lifelong resident of Wise County, Va. She was a mother and a homemaker had worked as a cook at area restaurants. Mrs. Hamilton was of the Baptist faith. She was a daughter of the late Creed and Theo Hensley Wells and was the widow of Ewing Hamilton, who passed away in 1969. Kaye Ball Jackson ABINGDON -- Sara Kathryn Ball Jackson, age 60, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at her home. She was a native of Tazewell County, Va., and lived in the Swords Creek Community before moving to Abingdon more than 40 years ago. Since that time she had lived in the Abingdon and Bristol areas. She was a graduate of Honaker High School and National Business College in Roanoke. She was office manager and bookkeeper for many years for Massey Stores (formerly Rex Shopping Center) and was more recently employed by Crabtree Buick-Pontiac and Flav-O-Rich. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Andy Jackson, on May 29, 2003; and by her father, Omley Ball, in 1988. She is survived by her mother, Helen V. Ball of Abingdon; one aunt, June V. Lambert of Bowling Green, Va.; one uncle, Sam VanDyke of Abingdon; and several cousins. Roberts, 93, passed away at his residence Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, after an extended illness. Mr. Roberts was the former owner of Roberts Tire Service in Corbin, Ky., and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended the Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist Church, was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Pound Senior Citizens. Mr. Roberts was associated with the Appalshop in Whitesburg, Ky., and had written five books, which the Appalshop published. Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Fugate Roberts; his parents, Charlie and Orlena Roberts; and four brothers, Glenn Roberts Sr., Harry Roberts, Ola Roberts and Percy Roberts. Stewart BLUFF CITY -- Mary N. Stewart, 75, went to be with our Lord on Sept. 2, 2003. Mrs. Stewart retired after serving 25 years as a librarian at the Bluff City Branch of the Sullivan County Library. She was a member of the Bluff City United Methodist Church, where she sang in the chancel choir and served as secretary of the United Methodist Women. Born on Aug. 10, 1928, Mary graduated from Bluff City High School. Later she was employed by Massengill's in Bristol Tennessee. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Cecil J. Stewart; and an infant son, Martin Stewart. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Azelle Malone. She was the beloved mother of three daughters: Sherry Kistner and husband John; Diane Stewart; and Kim Lundin and husband Tony; two grandsons, Jeff Kistner and Johnny Kistner; one step-granddaughter, Denette Riley; and one step- great- grandson; three sisters, Dorothy Honaker, Catherine Blevins and Angie Cummins; two brothers, Floyd Hamilton and Bill Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. Mallie Vermillion HILTONS, Va. -- Mallie Lou Hurt Vermillion, 94, of Route 1, went to be with Jesus at 12:35 p.m. Monday, Sept. l, 2003, at her home. She was born in Washington County, Va., on Sept. 5, 1908, and was the daughter of the late William Bill and Hattie Smith Hurt. She retired as a nurse's aide from Hicks Nursing Home. Mrs. Vermillion was a dedicated Christian lady and attended several different churches in the community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, S.V. "Jack" Vermillion, who was a long-time preacher in the community; son, Samuel Edward Vermillion; twin granddaughters, Sharon and Karen Vermillion; grandson, Ivan Vermillion; step-grandson, Shannon Carter; and brothers, Earl, Curtis and Kenneth Hurt.
