Dorothy Vandyke Rife, 58, Pilgrim Knob, Va. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nora Ruth Atwell MARION -- Nora Ruth Atwell, age 77, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, in the Francis Marion Manor . She was born in Smyth County to the late Kent and Etta Myers and was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Atwell Sr., and a son, Preston Atwell. She attended the Marion Gospel Mission Chapel. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Claude and Sue Atwell, Marion; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Peggy Myers, Ceres, Va., and Wallace and Lettie Myers, Ceres; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Bonnie and Paul Summerville, Saltville, Mary Shupe, Ceres, and Edith Gillespie, Marion; two grandchildren, Peggy Anderson, Marion, and Pam Harris, Marion; five great- grandchildren, Tiffany Surber, Stevie Harris, Ashley Harris, Owen Royer and Ethon Royer, and nieces, nephews and lots of friends also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion, with Pastor Steve Hutton, Pastor Larry Smith and Pastor Dennis Turley officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Cemetery in Nebo. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the Atwell family. Cullop, age 75, of 31198 Nova Drive, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. He was a native of Washington County, Va., and was the son of the late Ballard and Lillie Grey Cullop. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Neely and Nancy Eller. Rev. Cullop served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, was a member of the Liberty Hall Masonic Lodge 104, retired from the United Inter- Mountain Telephone Company, where he worked for 32 years, started his ministry in 1962 and was pastor of the Lebanon United Methodist Church of Chilhowie. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Hazel Cornett Cullop; two sons, Don Cullop and special friend, Reda Jones, and Ronnie Cullop and his wife, Tammy, all of Damascus; one daughter, Sandy Osborne and her husband, Jim, of Damascus; one sister, Ruth Greer of Damascus; four grandchildren, Steven Osborne, Hollie Osborne, Leah Cullop and Linsey Cullop, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, in the Lebanon United Methodist Church, with Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dollie Whited, and her husband, Billy Whited. Rife PILGRIM KNOB, Va. -- Dorothy Vandyke Rife, 58 years of age, of the Pilgrim Knob area, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at her home. Born in Buchanan County, Va., she was a daughter of Hazel Owens Vandyke Ratliff of Grundy and the late Robert Vandyke. She was a life-long resident of Buchanan County, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Rife was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Rife, Feb. 19, 1998.
