Carolyn Vannoy, 59, Abingdon Edna Faye Walker, 69 Vesta E. Cochran HAYSI, Va. - Vesta Edwards Cochran, age 94, died on Friday, September 19, 2003, after a long illness. She was a long-time member of the Haysi Church of Christ and the oldest member of their congregation. Her husband, Corbett E. Cochran, preceded her in death. Born in Dickenson County, she was the last surviving child of Benjamin Howell Edwards Jr. (Benny/B.J.) and his wife, Mary Sutherland Edwards. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Ernest Edwards; five sisters, Frances Anderson, Elizabeth Mullins, Alta Taylor, Gladys Carver and Lena Edwards. Survivors include two sons, Paul R. Cochran of Lake City, Fla., and Billy G. Cochran of Live Oak, Fla.; four daughters, Sue Counts of Groveport, Ohio, Bea Large of Bristol Tennessee, Weda Anderson of Owings, Md., and Linda Fox of Haymarket, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild also survive her. Survivors also include Sandra and Phillip Owens, her devoted caregivers. Funeral services will be held at the Haysi Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Jim Viers officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the Compton Family Cemetery, Twin Springs Community. The family will meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
