She was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Dunbar, Va., to Samuel and Cora Rose Rhea, who preceded her in death. She married Vernon R. Acton, who also preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Willie, Gaines, and Thurman Rhea, and two sisters, Mary Byrd and Shirley Rippey. Ruth worked for RCA as a cabinet painter and retired after 30 years of service. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 12 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, with visitation Monday, Sept. 29, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Survivors include a son, Mike Acton, wife Penny, of Martinsville, Ind.; brother, Marvin Rhea of Derby, Va.; sister, Lena Watts, husband Carl, of Miami, and grandchildren, Mike, Kyla, and Mikella Acton. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Cora Cruey Carter SALTVILLE -- Cora Cruey Carter, age 90, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in the Valley Health Care center. She was a member of the First Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband, K.G. Carter, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Wright Carter. She was the daughter of the late Otto and Hazel Palmer Hartfield. She was a native of Saltville who spent most of her life in the Abingdon area. She was a nurse at Johnston Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and was the widow of Edward Bryan Hagy Sr. She was a daughter of the late Wyndam R. Roberts and the late Martha Ann Blanche Farris Roberts. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Hagy Bishop of Richmond; one son, Edward Bryan Hagy Jr. of Arapahoe, N.C.; two sisters, Maize Morgan of Prattsville, Ala., and Nell Lambert of Stuart Draft, Va.; two brothers, Ted Roberts of Saltville and Eugene Roberts of Chilhowie; three grandchildren, Debbie Jacobs, Edward B. Hagy III and Erica Thompson, and seven great-grandchildren, Abby, Kaley and Molly Jacobs, Holly and Hunter Hagy and Graham and Kelsey Thompson. Robert Louis Mauk BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Robert "Bob" Louis Mauk, age 80, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Bristol Nursing Home. He was a native of Bristol Tennessee and was the son of the late George H. and Mary Breeding Mauk. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and retired in 1983 from the accounting department of United Intermountain Telephone Company. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Paul D. Mauk. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Vandivere Mauk; a daughter, Linda Mauk Kirkland of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris Jane and Frank Smith of Knoxville; one niece, Cassandra Smith Anderson; one nephew, W. She was born in Elizabethton, but had lived the past 25 years in the Bristol area. She was the daughter of Brady Loveless and Elaine Arnold Powers. She was born Nov. 1, 1961 in Pulaski, Va., and lived the past several years in Dublin. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Ellis Henry and Goldie Bandy Stacy. He was a life-long resident of Buchanan County, a member of Knox Creek Church of God and was a disabled coal miner. Mr. Stacy was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Evalee Blankenship Stacy, May 21, 2002. He was also preceded in death by one son, David Wayne Stacy. Lola M. Worley Lola Mae Fleenor Worley, age 76, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after suffering a stroke and heart attack on Sept. 11, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and was of the Baptist faith. She was a 24 year employee of Bristol Compressors, where she loved her job and her coworkers. She was a cancer survivor, thanks to Dr. Janet Drake of the Johnson City Medical Center. She was the widow of Arthur L. Worley and the daughter of the late Joe Allen "Al" and Laura McCracken Fleenor. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Luease F. Worley, and a stepdaughter, Bertha W. Bowman. Survivors include daughters, Billie W. Luchini and husband Tommy, Elizabeth A. Worley and Theresa L. Worley; honorary son, Steve Baumgardner; grandson, Chris Church and his wife Tonya; great-granddaughter, Katelyn Church; special great- nephew, Stanley Frye; two step-grandchildren, Ronald and Robin Bowman; five step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Jack and Margaret Fleenor, Ray and Brenda Fleenor and John and Faye Fleenor, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Forest Hills Mausoleum, with the Rev. Carl Young officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
