Campbell Funeral Home of Abingdon is in charge of arrangements. Harliss O. Belcher RAVEN, Va. -- Mr. Harliss Otto Belcher, age 74, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, in a Bristol Tennessee hospital. Born in Letcher County, Ky., he was the son of the late Caudle and Quellia Ratliff Belcher. He had lived most of his life in the Grundy area before moving to Raven 23 years ago. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran, a member and former commander of the John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion at Grundy, a member of the VFW and DAV, a member of the Sandy Valley Lodge 17 A.F. & A.M. at Grundy and a member of the Horton Ridge Church of God. He was retired from Island Creek Coal Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Belcher. Mr. Belcher is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mrs. Dollie Ball Belcher; two sons, Kenneth O. Belcher of Beckley, W.Va., Alvin Bradley Belcher of Princeton, W.Va.; one daughter, Kathy Massey and husband Phillip of Beckley; one stepson, Mark Tuggle and wife Sandra of Rosedale, Va.; three grandchildren, Eric Osborne, Rebecca Church and Mariah Tuggle, and three sisters-in-law, Connie Belcher of Wilmington, N.C., Trudell Ball of Raven, Ruby Lawson of Raven and Doris Dye of Rosedale. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, with Brother Dennis White and Brother Ricky Pruitt officiating. Anna Carol Browning BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Anna Carol Browning, age 53, of 2009 Windsor Ave., passed away, Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born June 9, 1951, in Lebanon, she had lived in the Bristol area for the past 15 years and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Laura Richardson, Knoxville; sister, Linda Phillips, Bristol Tennessee; sister-in-law, Timberly Price, Bristol Tennessee; very special friend, Jerry Stout, Bristol Tennessee; stepfather, Bob Clark, Norfolk, Va., and aunt, Betty Meade, Norfolk. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Edwin Bounds Hill ABINGDON -- Edwin Bounds Hill died suddenly at his home in Abingdon on Oct. 3, 2003. He was a retired physical therapist at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon for over 40 years. Hill was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Gary, W.Va., and was raised in Big Stone Gap. He was a star athlete for the Big Stone Gap High School Buccaneers in basketball, football and track. He served in the Navy during World War II and as an Army officer with the 45th Division during the Korean War. He remained active with the Army Reserves for many years as a lieutenant colonel in 1979. Hill graduated from the University of Maryland, taught and coached in Wise County Schools and then attended the Medical College of Virginia, where he received his physical therapy training. He completed his residency at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, Fishersville, Va., before coming to Johnston Memorial Hospital in 1957 to establish a physical therapy department. He retired from that position in the early 1990s. Hill was appointed by Governor Linwood Holton to serve on the Virginia State Board of Medicine Advisory Committee for Physical Therapy. He served in this capacity through two governors' terms. Upon moving to the area, Hill became a major part of the Abingdon community. He was "team doctor" of Abingdon High School teams and continued to work the sidelines for 40 years. He was presented a lifetime membership in the Abingdon High School Athletic Booster Club. Mr. Hill had lived in the Abingdon area for the past 50 years and he was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Susan H . Martin and husband Tom and Sally H. Hill and husband Randy, all of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, David E. Hill and wife Deborah of Knoxville; one stepdaughter, Debbie Spelce of Maryville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Doug Hawthorne of Blountville and David Hawthorne of Bristol Virginia; two sisters, Margaret Shannon of Greensboro, N.C., and Betty Baker of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Charles Hill of Florida, Jack Hill of Bristol Virginia, Jim Hill of Big Stone Gap and Dan Hill of Chester, Va., and 10 grandchildren, Amanda Martin, Anna Hill, Sam Hill, Lizzie Hill, Ashley Hill, Eric Hill, Andrew Hill, Chris Spelce, Alex Spelce and Taylor Hawthorne. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Elam Hill, and a second wife, Ann Hawthorne Hill. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Hill and Billy Wayne Hill. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Bill Moore and the Rev. Bill Rowland officiating. She was born March 25, 1922, in Bristol Virginia, a daughter of the late A.K. Faidley and Laura Botts Faidley, she lived most of her life in New York, until returning to Bristol in 1988. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Marshall, Lillian Feathers, Ruby Grubbs and Margaret Murray, two brothers, Lawrence "L.H." Faidley and Robert Faidley, and one grandson, Keith Poore. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Edward T. Poore; loving son, Richard A. Poore and wife Wanda, Bristol Virginia; grandson, Eric Poore and wife Crystal, and three great-granddaughters, Amanda Poore, Karessa Poore and Janie Poore. Born July 12, 1926, he was a son of the late John Ramsey Sr. and Della Chandler Ramsey. He had lived in Lebanon most of his life and was former resident of Bristol Virginia. He was a member of the Open Door Assembly of God in Lebanon and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Hogsed, and a brother, Edward.
