Clear RICH VALLEY, Va. – Mr. Garnett O. Clear, age 82, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was a loving, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the son of the late Harve and Annie Hubble Clear. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie B. Clear, and infant son, Benny. Mr. Clear was a veteran of World War II. Survivors: two sons and daughters-in-law, Barney and Esther Clear, Rich Valley, and Chris “Hoppy” and Janet Clear, Chilhowie; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Richard Harness, Abingdon; three sisters, Evelyn Pratt , Hillsville, Va., Mildred Olinger, Radford, Va., and Polly and Dr. N.C. Ratliffe, Clintwood; five grandchildren, Christopher Clear and wife Debbie, Kingsport, Shanon Griffin and husband Rithie, Roanoke, Justin Harness and special friend, Maggi Buckles, Abingdon, Bethany Jo Clear and fiancé Alex Renfro, Rich Valley, and Carrie Harness and special friend Travis Porter, Abingdon; two great-grandchildren, Emerald Pullon, Roanoke, and Taylor Clear, Kingsport, and several nieces and nephews. He was a lifetime farmer. Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by his son, Kenzie “Dusty” Davenport. Survivors: four sons, Deja T. Area Dr., passed away, Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Bluefield, Va., he was the son of the late John and Anne Neal Devor and lived most of his life in the Bristol area. He was a retired employee of the Raytheon with 32 years of service and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid golfer and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include wife, Shirley Devor; children, Christine Devor Plemons and husband Don, Park City, Utah, Jack Mills Devor, Johnson City, and Connie Devor Sharpe and husband Randy, Scottsboro, Ala.; stepchildren, Jennifer Troupe and husband Joel, Jacksonville, Fla., and Christine Strickland and husband Van, Osprey, Fla.; four grandchildren, Philip Sharpe, Tyler Sharpe, Evan Anderson and Jessica Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Kendall Sharpe and Kaleb Sharpe; two step-grandchildren, Ian Frazier and Nicholas Troupe; sister, June Hall, St. Augustine, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. Born July 12, 1926, he was a son of the late John Ramsey Sr. and Della Chandler Ramsey. He had lived in Lebanon most of his life and was former resident of Bristol Virginia. He was a member of the Open Door Assembly of God in Lebanon and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Hogsed, and a brother, Edward. Roland passed from this life on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Wellmont Hospital. She was born in Green Valley, N.C., to Joseph and Lola Payne Barlow. She had lived had lived most of her life in Bristol Tennessee, having devoted 42 years to the love and education of children at Central Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Roland, and brother, James Barlow.
