Betty Jean Smith Adkins departed this life after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Oct. 12. Gwendolyn Aeschliman BRISTOL, Tenn. – Gwendolyn (“Miss Dolie”) Aeschliman of 206 Hickoy Road, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City, Tenn. She was a native of Berne, Ind., a daughter of the late Emil Eugene Aeschliman and the late Ina Eley Aeschliman. She was a former employee of Dunbar Furniture Factory in Berne, Ind., and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Berne. She was a graduate of Philadelphia College of The Bible and came to this area more than 50 years ago as a Bible teacher and Bible camp worker. She was a Bible teacher in the public schools of Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee for many years and co-founder of Appalachian Bible Camp in Holston, Va. She had worked in many churches throughout this area, including Shakesville Sunday School, Paperville Baptist Church (where she served as song leader and worker for many years) and Bellmont Presbyterian Church (where she served as a leader of the Joy Club). She was a member of the Virginia Asher Bible Council, OMC and Philadelphia College Of The Bible Alumni Chapter of Southwest Virginia. She is survived by: several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Sheila Price Lambert of Berne; a special friend and co-worker, Miss Mary Archangelo of Bristol Tennessee; special friends and caregivers, Paul, Suzy and Wendy Parker of Blountville; and a host of friends. Dodl ABINGDON – Emily M. Dodl, widow of Henry L. Dodl, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2003. She was born in Chesterfield County but lived in Richmond throughout most of her lifetime with the exception of the past two years. Mrs. Dodl was 95 years old and was preceded in death by two brothers, Alex McCrone and Richard McCrone, both of Richmond. She is survived by two sons and their wives: Norman R. Dodl and Brenda P. Dodl of Abingdon; and James H. Dodl and Pamela Dodl of Romney, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Brian Dodl, Janet D. Atwell, Louise D. Shankle and Kenneth A. Dodl; and eight great-grandchildren. Hankins CEDAR BLUFF, Va. – Mrs. Claudia Earls Hankins, age 92, of 1457 Earls Branch Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Tazewell County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Clarence and Hannah Harrison Earls, both Tazewell County natives. She was a life long resident of the Cedar Bluff area and was of the Church of Christ faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Reber Hankins; one son, Mr. Joseph Samuel Hankins; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Smith and Mrs. Gussie Butcher; also two brothers, Mr. Harrison Earls and Mr. Benny Earls. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mr. Robinson was employed with Cape Industries in Warren for 37 years, was a member of the FOE Aerie 1269, Southeastern Michigan Horseshoe Club and NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Ked Robinson.
