She was a member of Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess for 16 years and had 19 years of perfect attendance. She was a member of the Maple Hills Garden Club and a member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church since 1949, where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and a past- president of United Methodist Women. Linda Ross Tickle MARION – Linda Ross Tickle, age 63, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at her home in Marion. She was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Tickle. She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Reynolds of Marion; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Amy Tickle of Pulaski, Va., and Dan C. Tickle Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Gwen Levitt of Marion, and three grandchildren, Brie Reynolds and Lindley Reynolds, both of Marion, and Lauren Tickle of Pulaski, Va. One niece, Sara Charapich, also survives. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Arvil Warren James Jacob Arvil Warren, 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Warren was a life-long resident of Sullivan County and an active member of the Democratic Party. He was a devoted member of Cross United Methodist Church, where he held many offices. He retired from Imperial Reading Company after 41 years of service as distribution manager. He joined the firm in the late 1930s and helped the company develop through the years from the Big Jack Manufacturing Company to the Blue Ridge Manufacturing Company and finally to Imperial Reading. After retirement, he enjoyed spending quality time working on his farm. He often referred to the animals as his friends. His parents, Henry Steve and Maudie Childress Warren, and his wife of 62 years, Ruby Cross Warren, preceded him in death. Mr. Warren is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Elizabeth) Moore of Severn, Md., Mrs. Kyle (Georgia) Morrell of Danville, Va., and Mrs. Albert (Glenna) Moore of Bristol Virginia; two grandsons, Jonathan Morrell of Christiansburg, Va., and Albert Moore II of Blacksburg, Va.; three granddaughters, Michelle Phillips of Bellevue, Neb., Rebecca Crane of Hillsborough, N.C., and Kathryn Wojciechowski of Eldersburg, Md.; four great- grandsons; six great-granddaughters; one brother, Henry Steve Warren Jr. of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Ruby Tolliver of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Laura Jewell Minnick of Blountville, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Cross United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Holmes and the Rev. Harry W. Fleenor officiating. Burial will follow in Shelby Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Morrell, Albert Moore II, Bryan Crane, Harry Elsea, Douglas Cross, Edward Minnick, Trent Cross, Johnnie Johnson, Gary Clark and Calvin Kyte. Before becoming a homemaker, Mrs. Gilmore worked as an accounting clerk for the New York Central Railway and as a supervisor in the Auditing Division of the Syracuse, NY Office of The Internal Revenue Service. Mrs. Gilmore had lived in Green Mountain, NC from 1978 - 1988 and since then in Johnson City. She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Gilmore, Johnson City; two sisters, Gladys Ryerson, Holland Pattent, NY, and Eileen Trudell, Camillus, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
