Joe Edd Addison, age 68, of the Baptist Valley Community, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in a Bluefield hospital following a long illness. Born in Richlands, he was the son of the late Earl Addison Sr. and Evelyn Williams Addison. Living most of his life in Baptist Valley, he was a minister and the former pastor of the Apostolic Tabernacle at Baptist Valley. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He had enjoyed many years of ministering, song writing and recording and had shared the stage with George Jones, Tammy Wynette, the Singing Rambos and many others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margarett Ella Burress Addison, and brothers, Earl Addison Jr., Tom Addison, Ken Addison and Elmer Addison. He is survived by two sons, Danny P. Addison and wife Vicki of Baptist Valley and Dwayne D. Addison and fiancée Jennifer Dobbs of Bluefield, W.Va.; one sister, Dorothy Horn of Rural Retreat, Va., and two grandchildren, Ashton Earl Addison and Angela Lynnette Addison. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel, Cedar Bluff, with Rev. Kenny Pruitt and Rev. Randy Fielder officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Howard Jackson BRISTOL, Va. – Mr. William Howard Jackson, age 80, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at the NHC Healthcare Center. He was born and lived in Washington County, Va., having been in Bristol for the past 54 years. He was a member of the St. Anne Catholic Church. Howard was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and a retired employee of the Reynolds Metal Company. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Belle Roberts Jackson; two brothers, Stoney Jackson and wife Eula of Abingdon and Paul Jackson and wife Ann of Abingdon; one sister, Dixie Falls and husband Phillip of Abingdon; one aunt, Pauline Surber of Saltville, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at 1 p.m. in the St. Anne Catholic Church, with Rev. Timothy E. Keeney officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the church. Jessee APPALACHIA, Va. – Garnette Collier Jessee, 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in the Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Jessee, and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil Curtis and Sandra Collier of Appalachia, and several nieces and nephews. Bonnie Rash BRISTOL, Tenn. – Bonnie Rash, age 80, of 2382 Carolina Ave., went to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Butler, Tenn., but moved to the Bristol area in Dec., 1948. She was the daughter of the late Emerald G. and Winnie Wilson Robinson, and a charter member of Valley Pike Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by two sons, Jack and Johnny Rash, one grandson, Brian Ketron, sisters, Grace Pierce and Fern Stalcup, and brothers, Salmer Robinson, Bud Robinson, John Robinson, Glen Robinson and Ray Robinson. She was a retired employee of Barkers Super Market. She is survived by her husband, Joseph E. “Joe” Rash. Also surviving, daughters, Margaret Wallace of Limestone, Tenn., and Nancy Ketron of Bristol Tennessee; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer Robinson of Pulaski, Va.; three sisters, Shirley Norris and Edna Kyte, both of Butler, and Faye Fritts of Elizabethton, and special friends, Micky and Donna Smith and Debbie Haynes. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Sandy and Tom Roach; father, Thomas Earl “Bud” Shanks Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Bobbie Shanks; nephews, Cody and Levi Shanks; step-grandmothers, Frankie Myers and Lucille Blakely; several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. Mary Edna Williams BRISTOL, Tenn. – Mary Edna Chappell Williams, 77, passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a daughter of the late Walter E. and Augusta Gertrude Webb Chappell and was the widow of Benjamin B. Williams. She was a life-long resident of Sullivan County and a member of Bethel View Baptist Church. She is survived by her sisters, Ina Brooks, Pauline Rudzenski, Florence Held and Mildred Reece; her brothers, Robert Chappell and Benny Chappell; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Frances Blosser.
