She was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Eddie Leona Proffit Farmer and was preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Barr. Mrs. Barr was a member of the Green Cove Community Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Green Cove Christian Church. She is survived by two sons, William F. Barr and his wife Janine of Green Cove and James Warren Barr and his wife Kay, of Stafford, Va.; one daughter, Joanne Osborne of Abingdon; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Weaver Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Eads. W.R. Gorsage Jr. NORTON – Walter R. “Doc” Gorsage Jr., 70, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at his home on Dorchester Road. The son of the late Rev. W. Ray and Bessie Gorsage, he was retired from both the U.S. Navy and the Jacksonville, Fla., Sheriff’s Department. Doc’s Naval career included tours of duty in Korea, Africa and Vietnam, where he was attached as a medical corpsman to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines. While in Vietnam, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his Naval career, he was a sheriff’s deputy in Jacksonville for 15 years. After retiring for a second time, he moved to Norton, where he volunteered with the Norton Police Department Auxiliary and the Wise County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the Norton Christian Church. Mr. Gorsage was preceded in death by a son, Bradford Ray Gorsage.
