Mr. Almany was born in Bristol, the son of the late Birdie Ruth and Clifford E. Almany. He joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18 and was stationed at various bases in his military career. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include loving wife of 21 years, Sandra Keith Almany; children, Clifford Lee Almany and Cynthia Millican of Bristol and Larry Gene Almany of Minnesota; siblings, H.S. Almany and Sandra Phipps, both of Bristol; grandchildren, Brandy Almany, Hannah Almany, Patrick Almany and Benjamin Almany, all of Minnesota, Chase and Miranda Almany of Burlington, N.C., and Sallie and Caleb Millican of Bristol; one great-grandchild and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Barker. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Phil Whitaker officiating. Anderson ABINGDON – Mr. Charles Early Anderson, 71, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord Nov. 25, 2003. Charles was born in Saltville and was of the Christian faith. After graduation, he joined the Air Force where he rose to the rank of technical sergeant in radio transmissions. While in the service, he returned home on visits where he met and fell in love with Mattie Bell Gillespie, whom he married after his four-year tour of duty, and settled in Abingdon. He worked at Raytheon as a quality inspector for 34 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson of Saltville, brother, Franklin Delano Anderson, sister, Fannie Lou Denia Olinger, and sister, Louella Mae Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Mattie G. Anderson; son, Greg E. Anderson and wife Rita of Abingdon; daughters: Debbie A. Sullins of Abingdon; Linda A. Caruthers and husband Mark of Meadowview; and Patricia A. Burgess KNOXVILLE – Elmer C. Burgess, age 68, passed away Sunday Nov. 23, 2003, following a long battle with cancer. He was a former resident of Bluefield, W.Va., and a graduate of Bluefield College and Virginia Tech, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in mining engineering. He was licensed as a professional engineer in the state of Kentucky. He retired from the coal and limestone mining industries in 1993 and began a second career as a certified home inspector and building contractor. He was preceded in death by: parents, Myrtle And Tom Burgess. Raymond (Bo) Cole ABINGDON – Mr. Raymond (Bo) Cole was born on Aug. 1, 1933, in Jewell Ridge, Va. He passed away on Nov. 25, 2003, in Abingdon. Mr. Cole was the son of the late Byrd and Okie Cole of Cedar Bluff. He had lived in Abingdon for seven years, moving from Buchanan County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was stationed in France. He was retired in 1990 from General Electric of Winchester, Va., where he was a plant supervisor. He was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and Abingdon Lodge 48 AF&AM and the Lions Club of Oakwood, Va. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Matney Cole; one son, Tommy Cole; two brothers, Rufus and Ralph Cole. He was a vocational agricultural teacher in Washington County, Va. Mr. Reynolds was also an active farmer and former insurance agent. Willie Jean Thompson NORTON – Willie Jean Hill Thompson, 70, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a loving mother and an active member in the Big Stone Gap Church of God. She ministered in music to nursing homes. She was the widow of George Allen Thompson and was preceded in death by a son, Terry Allen Thompson. Zona Wallace Willis LEBANON – Mrs. Zona Wallace Willis, age 89, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, in Lebanon. Born Jan. 28, 1914, in Honaker, she was a daughter of the late John Newton and Nancy Jessee Wallace. She had lived in the Abingdon and Lebanon areas for the past three years, moving from Richmond, where she lived for 40 years. She was a graduate of Honaker High School and a member of the Southminster Presbyterian Church in Richmond. She was employed at Holston Ordinance in Kingsport during World War II as chief chemist. She was loved by everyone whose lives she touched and was an angel whose job on this earth was done and had gone back to heaven. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James "Buddy" Combs; her second husband, Maj. Houston Page Willis (Retired); one son, Warren Fay Combs; three brothers, John Ozro Wallace, Newell Wallace and William Wallace; and two sisters, Marie Duncan and Eileen Wallace. Survivors include one sister, Lavona Perkins of Honaker; four nieces: Sherrill Ludig of Hermann, Mo.; Sandra Bagamery of Beaver, Pa.; Elane Knight of Conover, N.C.; and Joan Wallace of Hickory, N.C.; six nephews: John Wallace of White River Junction, Vt.; Steve Wallace of Conover; Mark Wallace and David Wallace, both of Hickory; Greg Wallace of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Wayne Perkins of Honaker. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker. Interment will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon.
