Bertha Anderson SALTVILLE – Mrs. Bertha Elmore Anderson, age 90, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Smyth County Community hospital. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret Elmore, two brothers and a sister. Survivors: her husband, Harry Anderson; special nephew, Alvin and wife Lois Lynch, Saltville, and several nieces and nephews. Charles Anderson ABINGDON – Mr. Charles Early Anderson, 71, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord Nov. 25, 2003. Charles was born in Saltville and was of the Christian faith. After graduation, he joined the Air Force where he rose to the rank of technical sergeant in radio transmissions. While in the service, he returned home on visits where he met and fell in love with Mattie Bell Gillespie, whom he married after his four-year tour of duty, and settled in Abingdon. He worked at Raytheon as a quality inspector for 34 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson of Saltville, brother, Franklin Delano Anderson, sister, Fannie Lou Denia Olinger, and sister, Louella Mae Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Mattie G. Anderson; son, Greg E. Anderson and wife Rita of Abingdon; daughters: Debbie A. Sullins of Abingdon; Linda A. Caruthers and husband Mark of Meadowview; and Patricia A. Reynolds and husband David Mark Reynolds of Bristol Tennessee; grandchildren, Matthew Reynolds, Johnathon Widener, Alex Anderson, Travis Sullins, Heather Sullins and Chris Anderson, as well as two great-grandchildren. Raymond Cole ABINGDON – Mr. Raymond (Bo) Cole was born on Aug. 1, 1933, in Jewell Ridge, Va. He passed away on Nov. 25, 2003, in Abingdon. Mr. Cole was the son of the late Byrd and Okie Cole of Cedar Bluff. He had lived in Abingdon for seven years, moving from Buchanan County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was stationed in France. He was retired in 1990 from General Electric of Winchester, Va., where he was a plant supervisor. He was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and Abingdon Lodge 48 AF&AM and the Lions Club of Oakwood, Va. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Matney Cole, one son, Tommy Cole, and two brothers, Rufus and Ralph Cole. He was a U.S. Army veteran, where he served during World War II, and a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Malone. Joe was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and all of his special ways of expressing his love will be greatly missed. Estel Ray VANSANT, Va. – Mr. Estel Ray, age 84, of the Fletcher’s Ridge section of Route 1, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at his home. Born March 18, 1919, in Buchanan County, Va., he was a son of the late Lincous and Patsy McGlothlin Ray. A life-long resident of the area, he was a member of the Fletcher’s Ridge Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years and was a deacon for over 40 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he had served in the European Theater of World War II and was a 100% disabled veteran, having been honored with the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star of Bravery and was classified as an expert marksman. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the American Legion Post 164 of Grundy, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Hattie Ray, one son-in-law, Kermit Keen, four brothers, Bascome Ray, Luther Ray, Hunter Ray and Sam Ray, and one sister, Goldie Hale. Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus is serving the family of Mr. Snidow. Charles White BRISTOL, Va. – Mr. Charles Earnest White, age 60, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. White was a native of Holton, Kan., and spent most of his early life in Dayton, Ohio. He moved to Bristol in 1988, working for Universal Fibers (Camac). Mr. White was a Scout Master for Troop 3, Bristol Tennessee, and a soccer coach for Bristol Parks and Recreation. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved cycling. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Lucille Holmgren White, two brothers, Jack Jackson and John White, and sisters, Doris Martin and Evelyn Mott. He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Tommie) White of the home; one daughter, Elizabeth White of Richmond; one stepdaughter, Ann Taylor of Virginia Beach, Va.; sons, Christopher White of Staunton, Va., Douglas White of Blacksburg, Va., and Nathaniel White of Christiansburg, Va.; stepson, Mike Bowle of Bristol Tennessee, and two sisters, Louise Varenkamp of Covington, Ga., and Rose Lee Geiger of Leesburg, Fla. Also surviving are eight grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. White will be 4 o’clock Sunday at the Akard Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John Roe officiating. Burial will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stuarts Draft, Va. Pallbearers will be family. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Akard Funeral Home Chapel. Isaac Wilson BLOUNTVILLE – Isaac Edgar "Bud" Wilson, 55, of 125 Mobley Rd., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003. Mr. Wilson had lived in the Bristol area for the past 40 years of his life and worked as a lineman for the Johnson City Power Board. He was also an avid hunter. Survivors include sister, Mildred L. "Renee" Moore and husband Samuel R. "Buck" Moore, and four brothers, Charles R. Wilson and wife Margaret N. Wilson, Isaac N. Wilson Jr. and wife Trudy Wilson, Eric R. Wilson and Norman N. Wilson. Graveside services for Isaac Edgar Wilson will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at the Mountain View Cemetery, with Pastor Tom Hicks officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
