She retired from Raytheon with 25 years of service and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Herman Anderson I. Left to mourn her passing are a son, Harry H. Elvin Allen Gibson BRISTOL, Tenn. – Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer Elvin Allen Gibson, age 63, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at his home. He was a native of Bristol Virginia and a graduate of Bristol College. He traveled extensively while in the service. Most recently retired from AB & T at Northeast State. He was a member of Midway Church of the Living God. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, a loving father, devoted husband, son and brother. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Ogle Gibson, and his first wife, Lynda Lea Gibson. Kegley and Marietta McWane Kegley. She attended Wythe County Public Schools and the Villa Marie Academy. She moved to Bristol Virginia in 1945 and during her working career held positions as secretary and bookkeeper for several local firms, including Big Jack Manufacturing, Radio Station WXBQ and the Bristol Tennessee Public Schools City Lunch Room Program. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle 2 and was an active member of several church committees. She was a member and treasurer of the Bristol Business and Professional Women’s Club and a member of the Bristol Virginia Garden Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Ernest Kegley, Joe Kegley, Thomas Kegley, Fred Kegley, Walter Kegley and Henry Kegley. She is survived by five nieces and four nephews. William Woodrow Walling BRISTOL, Va. – William Woodrow Walling, age 82, left this life on Dec. 3, 2003, at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee. He was affectionately known to his family and many friends as "Bud." Born on Nov. 3, 1921, in Bristol Virginia, Bud Walling was a lifetime resident of Bristol, a city he dearly loved. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lois Powell Walling. He is also survived by three sons, W. Challen Walling, Mark Walling and wife Vannessa Carter Walling and Jeffrey P. Walling and wife Susan Wilson Walling. Bud is survived by seven grandchildren, Whitney Walling Singleton and her husband Nathan, Mary Katherine Walling, Harrison Michael Walling, John Thomas Walling, Joseph Woodrow Walling, William Frazier Walling and Mary Catherine Frazier Walling, and two step-grandchildren, Carter Maria Whatley and Warner Anne Whatley. Also surviving him are two brothers, Frank C. Walling and Jack D. Walling, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Walling and Ida Scalf Walling, as well as two brothers, Walter A. Walling and Lawrence Walling, and two sisters, Cora Walling Leonard and Florence Louise Walling Royston. Bud Walling was a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School. He attended King College on a football scholarship before proudly serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in England at the 53rd General Hospital. He attended the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He held an honorary doctorate degree from Virginia Intermont College. He was the founder of Walling Distributing Company Inc. of Bristol Virginia and the Southwest Virginia distributor for Anheuser-Busch products. He received numerous awards and honors for his marketing and sales achievements, including Anheuser- Busch’s Wholesaler of the Year for 1992. He was active in civic and community affairs, as well as his church of many years, Central Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was the founder and chairman of the Bristol War Memorial Foundation, which erected the Bristol War Memorial on Cumberland Avenue. He was the co-founder and sustaining benefactor for over 20 years of the Bristol Community Christmas Tree Celebration and Tree Lighting. He was an original benefactor and supporter of the Beaver Creek Walk and a benefactor of the expansion of the Bristol Public Library. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for Virginia Intermont College, the Board of Directors of the Bristol Virginia Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Board of Directors of Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center Foundation, the Board of Trustees of King College, the Board of Directors of the Bristol Historical Society and the Board of Directors of the National D-Day Memorial. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was inducted in the Wellmont Foundation Citizens’ Hall of Fame in 1999. Viewing will be from noon to 1 p.m., with service at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Mrs. Carolyn Worley, B-1 Springdale Village Apartments, at any time. Mr. Worley passed away suddenly on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Bristol Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Robinson Mortuary Inc., is serving the family of Mr. Robert L. Worley. Burial will follow in the Edwards Cemetery, Birchleaf, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Haysi Funeral Home after 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, where an evening service will be held at 7 p.m. Mrs. Wright, age 97, of Route 2, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Haysi.
