Billy Bordwine PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Billy Joe Bordwine, 51, of Peyton Creek, died on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was born on Nov. 4, 1952, in Virginia to Virgie Osborne Bordwine and the late George Bordwine. He was a general contractor and a member of the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, Mr. Bordwine is survived by his wife, Elouise Williamson Bordwine; son, Jason (Mary) Bordwine of Saltville; stepsons, Duane (Linda) Smith of Varney, Ky., and Derrick (Amy) Smith of Virgie; brothers, David (Kathy) Bordwine of Meadowview, Allen Bordwine, Virginia Beach, Va., and Mark (Susan) Bordwine of Alabama; grandchildren, Bradley Bordwine, Tiffany Smith and Tasha Nicole Smith, and special grandchild, Little Sam. He retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after 37 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruth Steele Caldwell. Mrs. Edmondson was born Dec. 27, 1919, in the Maple Grove Community of Washington County to the late W.G. Lester and Elizabeth Brodie Lester. She was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church. She was a 1940 graduate of Madison College. Mrs. Edmondson was an elementary school teacher in Abingdon and Meadowview and retired from there after 38 years. She was a member of Meadowview Home Demonstration Club and Emory Community Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank H. Edmondson, two brothers, Bill Lester and Fred B. (Dot) Lester, and a special friend, Francis Flannagan. Viola Blevins Gamble MARION – Viola Blevins Gamble, age 80, widow of Robert Conley Gamble, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at her home in Marion. Mrs. Gamble was a retired employee of Harwood Manufacturing of Marion and attended the Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was a true Christian and if there ever was an angel, she was one. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Born in Green Springs, Va., the daughter of the late Rev. Burl O’Dell and Rose Lee Hyler Graybeal, she had lived in the Bristol area most of her life. She was the retired manager of the Bristol Tennessee School System Credit Union, was previously employed as treasurer of the Federal Credit Union at Grey Hosiery Mills and a supervisor at Bristol Products. She was a member of Fellowship Chapel Church. She was the widow of Gordon S. Mercer and was also preceded in death by a brother, Burl Graybeal Jr., a granddaughter, Siobhan M. Reynders, sister, Bonnie Graybeal Gorham, brothers, Ernest Graybeal, Stanley Graybeal, Charles Graybeal and Harry Graybeal, and a number of nieces and nephews. Survivors include daughter, Joyce M. Sara Gray Pardue Sara Gray Pardue, 98, died Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2003, at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City. She was born on Jan. 2, 1905, in Washington County, Va., and graduated from Stonewall Jackson College. Mrs. Pardue played the piano at Green Spring Presbyterian Church and its chapel, Watauga, during the 1920s. She spent her married life in North Carolina and South Carolina and retired from the Greensboro, N.C., YWCA. Mrs. Pardue was a charter member of Starmount Presbyterian Church in Greensboro where she sang in the choir. She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since moving to Kingsport nearly 25 years ago. Preceding her in death were her husband, W.A. Pardue, her parents, Charles and Maidie Gray, a brother, Harry Gray, and a grandson, Eric Pardue. Walling BRISTOL, Va. – Funeral services for William Woodrow Walling will be held at Central Presbyterian Church, Euclid Avenue, Bristol Virginia, on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at 3 p.m. Pallbearers are Nathan Singleton, David McFarlane, Robert D. Leasure, Jack D. Walling Jr., Scott H. Walling and Gregory P. Walling. Honorary pallbearers are his brother-in-law, William E. Powell, Warren W. Caskie, Challen E. Caskie, Frank Goodpasture Jr., Karl Smith, Frank DeFriece, David E. Thompson, M.D., Robert E. Gillion, Harman E. Leonard, Albert B. Akard Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Walling. Nancy A. Whittaker ABINGDON – Mrs. Nancy Alice Whittaker, age 68, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She attended the Rich Valley United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jack Whittaker; a daughter, Jackie Whittaker of Abingdon; a son, Jeffrey Whittaker of Abingdon; a sister and brother-in-law, Dora Lee Hampton and Jack Hampton of Abingdon; a sister-in-law, Geneva McCormick of Bristol Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2003, in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Rev. Darrel Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery. Those attending the service are asked to assemble at the Mausoleum Chapel by 10:50 a.m. Monday. Betsy Lynn Woods BRISTOL, Va. – Betsy Lynn Woods, age 79, 625 Navajo Trail Road, died at her residence Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Emmett and Mabel Kitchen Fields. Shew as preceded in death by husband, Wayne H. Woods, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Survivors include special friends, Mildred Sharrett and Larry Sharrett Sr.; nieces, Suzanne Overton and husband Charles of Codova, Tenn., Karen Fields of Greenville, S.C., and Debbie Hardison and husband Phil of Knoxville, and six grand-nephews, Andy, John and Mike Overton and Cooper, Ethan and Graham Hardison. Funeral services will be noon on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Rick Light officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
