Dorothy Bennett OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Dorothy "Dot" Leab Bennett, age 70, of 241 North Purdue, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bristol Tennessee, where she lived until 1960, and then moved to Oak Ridge. She was the daughter of the late John and Willie Mae Brown Leab and was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker, a member of the Mideast Senior Citizen’s Group in Oliver Springs, Tenn., and the widow of the late James Earl Bennett. She is survived by daughter, Janice Bennett of Oak Ridge; sons, James Bennett and wife Brenda of Powell, Tenn., and Mike Bennett and wife Bonnie of Oliver Springs; sisters, Earleen Maxwell of Lakeland, Fla., and Vada Biggs of Bristol; brothers, Kenneth Leab of Thonotosassa, Fla., Jack Leab of Zephrhills, Fla., and Tom Leab of Lakeland; grandchildren, Michael Bennett Griffith, Janet Bryant, Christie Bethel, Amanda Arnold and Rhiannon Seibers; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a stepsister, Connie Stinson Combs. Della Corvin MARION – Della Mae Lyons Corvin, age 82, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in the Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Corvin worked as a cook for Marion College for several years, then later as a cook for the Southwestern State Hospital when she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bowman Corvin, her parents, James and Clara Earls Lyons, one sister and four brothers. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, James and Christine Corvin of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandchildren, Matthew and Annie Corvin; one sister-in-law, Ruth Hall of Marion, and several nieces and nephews. Hilda Mae Coulthard SALTVILLE – Mrs. Hilda Mae Coulthard, age 84, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Wellmont Medical Center in Bristol Tennessee. She was a life-long resident of Saltville. Mrs. Coulthard was a substitute teacher, a homemaker, noted for her fine cooking, a devoted friend of the community and a member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church. Mrs. Coulthard was born to the late Madge and Albert Henegar on Oct. 19, 1919. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Glen and David Henegar. Mrs. Coulthard is survived by Holmes, her husband of 65 years; a sister, Betty Zane Lamie Davidson and husband Berkley of Bristol Tennessee, and a sister-in- law, Mattie Henegar, of Saltville. She is also survived by one daughter, Joan Minnick and husband Stewart of Bristol Virginia, and three sons, Danny of Tazewell, Bill of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Ron of Boone, N.C. Survivors also include daughters-in-law, Diana, Betty Joan and Betty Lynn, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Madam Russell United Methodist Church in Saltville, followed by burial in Elizabeth Cemetery. Marvin E. Coulthard PEARISBURG, Va. – Marvin Eulis Coulthard, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Coulthard was born in Atkins, Va., on Nov. 19, 1916, and was a son of the late William Howard Coulthard and Maude Repass Coulthard. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Coulthard, a sister, Della Box, and a brother-in-law, Charles Wheeler. Marvin was very active in the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church. He was a member and past president of the Pearisburg Kiwanis Club, a member of the Giles Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees for several years, a member of the Giles Masonic Lodge 106, AF & AM, a member of the Giles Shrine Club and a member of the Kazim Shrine Temple of Roanoke. He served on the Pearisburg Town Council for 20 years and was a member of the Giles County Industrial Development Commission. He was instrumental in establishing the Ingram Village United Methodist Church. He opened the first auto supply store in Giles County in 1949 (Motor Supply Corp.). Marvin is survived by wife, Rosamond Hicks Coulthard of Pearisburg; two sons and daughter-in-law, Curtis C. and Mary Coulthard of Pearisburg and M. Peery Sr., age 80, of 1727 Euclid Ave., went to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1923, in Tazewell, Va., but lived most of his life in the Bristol area. He was the son of the late Walter George and Vera Peery and was the widower of Thelma Musselwhite Peery. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. He was a retired foreman for Pope Construction and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by children, Barbara Leonard and husband John, George C. Peery Jr. and wife Patty, Raymond D. Peery and wife LuAnn and Dave Peery and wife Charlotte; stepdaughter, Shirley Oliver; grandchildren, Shannon Peery, Raymond Peery Jr., George C. He was born May 24, 1919, to the late Belt H. Quillen and Carrie Seaver Quillen. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, June Baker and two infant sisters, Joe Ann Quillen and Peggy O’Neil Quillen, and his brother, Rhea Quillen. He was a life-long resident of Scott County, Va., and a member of United Methodist Church and Dr. Griggs Men’s Sunday School Class of the United Methodist Church. Mr. Quillen was a graduate of VPI, ‘40. He served on Lenowisco Planning District Commission, Duffield Development Authority, was one of the original committee members for the construction of Legion Field and a long-time supporter of Gate City athletics. Maj. Quillen was a veteran of World War II and served as company commander of the 337th Combat Engineers in the European and Pacific Theaters. He also was the first commander of Gate City National Guard 7365. Bertie Mae Scott MEADOWVIEW – Bertie Mae Scott, age 70, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was born on Aug. 23, 1933, in Washington County and was a daughter of the late Wyndham Johnson and Edna Short Johnson. Bertie was a member of Blackwell’s Chapel Union Church. Paul Stone Sr. Paul Eugene Stone Sr., 84, passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born April 7, 1919, in Sullivan County to the late A.D. and Daisy Harr Stone, and was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Jeanette St. John Stone. He attended King College and received his master’s degree in education at East Tennessee State University. He was principal for 17 years in the Sullivan County School System at Weaver, Central Heights and Lynn Garden and was principal at Vance Junior High School in Bristol for 16 years. In 1947, he was responsible for starting the Walnut Hill School which served the community until 1963. He was president of the Sullivan County Education Association, Bristol Tennessee Education Association and the Bristol Tennessee Retired Teachers. In 1970, he was presented the Outstanding Teacher Award by the VFW. He served on the board of directors of the Lynn Garden Optimist Club and the Central Heights and Akard Ruritan clubs. He was a life long member of the Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church, serving as Sunday School teacher for over 50 years and was elder emeritus. He was active for several years in the Walnut Hill and Buffalo senior citizens organizations. Surviving are three sons, Paul E. Stone Jr. and his wife Cathy of Scottsville, N.Y., John Stone of Bristol Tennessee and George Stone and his wife Marcia of Bristol Tennessee, and four grandchildren, Thomas Stone and wife Susan of Fairport, N.Y., David Stone and his fiancée Tracey of Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla., and Michael Stone and Katrina Stone, both of Bristol Tennessee. Randolph Winebarger MARION – Randolph Winebarger, age 77, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in the Smyth County Community Hospital. Mr. Winebarger was the son of the late Sherman and Georgia Plummer Winebarger and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was an employee of Virginia Monument Company, where he worked for 26 years as a monument designer and engraver.
