Edith Charles Boyd VANSANT, Va. - Edith Charles Boyd, 77 years of age, of the Mouth of Leemaster area, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Judy Kennedy Charles. She was a life-long resident of Buchanan County and a member of Harman Freewill Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and was a homemaker. Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, William McKinley Boyd, Aug. 15, 2001. Nelson Boyd HONAKER - Mr. Nelson Boyd, age 76, of the Big A Mountain section, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, in an Abingdon hospital. Born Oct. 27, 1927, in Deskins, Va., he was a son of the late Elbert and Rachel Street Boyd. He had spent most of his life in the area and was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lacy Rowe and Lisa Boyd, and two brothers, Arnold Boyd and Willie Boyd. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary Virginia Boyd of the home; one daughter, Donna Hollaway of Lebanon; two sons, Ricky Boyd and Gary Boyd, both of the home; one grandson, Matthew Hollaway of Lebanon; five sisters, Hassie Brown, Bonnie Street and Lonna VanDyke, all of Keen Mountain, Va., Dorothy Potter of Meadowview and Fonnie Coleman of Oakwood, Va., and one brother, Jack Boyd of Abingdon. (Curt) Isom passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at his residence at 6014 Powell River, from complications due to a valiant battle with lung cancer. She was born May 18, 1912, in Wise County, Va., the daughter of the late Wayne Somers O’Dell and Lottie Anne Vaughan O’Dell, and graduated from Coeburn High School in 1931. She completed a secretarial course at Massey Business College in Richmond and was employed at Coeburn Hospital for nine years as bookkeeper- secretary. She then moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for 26 years for the federal government, Post Office Department, first as secretary before advancing to the position of claims adjuster and then case analyst for appointment of postmasters and rural carriers. She retired in 1969 and spent a great deal of time on family genealogy. In 1980, she and her husband, John Edwin Kaldenbach, moved to Kingsport. Her husband passed away in 1988. Mrs. Kaldenbach was a member of Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church. Surviving are several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Mildred O’Dell, Pound. He had lived in Kingsport most of his life and was a member of Glenn Alpine Methodist Church. He received a B.A. degree from E.T.S.U., a master’s degree from Peabody College and further graduate study at various universities. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mack retired from Sullivan County Board of Education. He retired with 30 years of service holding position of teacher, principal and supervisor. He was a lifetime member of both the Tennessee Education Association and the National Education Association. He was also a member of the Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association. Mr. McPhetridge was past president of the Sullivan County Principals, past president of the First Tennessee Regional Mustang Club, where he was awarded Mustang Member of the Year for eight consecutive years. Stiltner UNICOI, Tenn. - Dustin Randolph Stiltner, 21, 2125 Upper Stone Mountain Road, Limestone Cove Community, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Johnson City. He was born in Bristol Tennessee and grew up in Unicoi County. He was a son of Bobby and Barbara Phipps Stiltner, Unicoi. He graduated from Unicoi County High School in 2000, where he was a member of the football and baseball teams. He was a senior at East Tennessee State University. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Brady E. Stiltner, paternal great-grandmother, Susan Phipps, and one aunt, Debbie Herman. Other than his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Rylee Madison Stiltner, Erwin; two sisters, Keri Bogart and husband Chris, Johnson City, and Amanda Phillips and husband Bryan, Erwin; two brothers, Thomas Stiltner and wife Mitzi, Elizabethton, and Steven Stiltner, Richlands; maternal grandfather, Paul Phipps, Bristol Virginia; maternal grandmother, Jean Smith and husband Harvey, Kansas City, Kan.; paternal grandmother, Bessie Stiltner, Abingdon; six uncles, Carl Phipps and wife Lisa, Bristol Virginia, Jimmy Phipps and wife Trish, Bristol Virginia, Ronnie Stiltner and wife Irene, Richlands, Eddie Stiltner, Abingdon, Harvey Smith and wife Jen, Florida, and Shannon Smith and wife Shelby, Florida; two aunts, Carol Looney and husband Tommy, Abingdon, and Wanda Musick and husband David, Abingdon; one niece, Isabella Bogart, Johnson City; three nephews, Austin Stiltner, Richlands, Ryan Stiltner, Richlands, and Garrett Stiltner, Elizabethton, and special friend, April Greene, Erwin. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Rev. Estel Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service time Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Valley Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Evergreen Cemetery.Those attending the graveside services will meet at Valley Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Margaret Carr Stout BRISTOL, Tenn. - Margaret Carr Stout, 87, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at the Cambridge House nursing home. A daughter of the late Herbert Carr and Mable Hodge, she was retired from Gordon Garment Company and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Stout was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Stout. Survivors include her son, James W. Stout and his wife Myra of Bristol Tennessee; a niece, Connie Pendergrass of Bluff City, and a sister-in-law, Doris Harkrader of Bristol Virginia. A memorial service will be conducted at noon on Monday in the Blevins Memorial Chapel of Oakley-Blevins Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Watson officiating. The family will receive friends during an informal time of visitation from 11 o’clock until noon Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Trivette BRISTOL, Tenn. - Allie Roark Stewart Trivette, age 83, 2780 Stewart Hill Private Drive, Blountville, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, in Cambridge House, Bristol Tennessee. She was a native of Creston, N.C., and daughter of the late Conley and Delphia Marsh Roark. She was a former employee of Bristol Jeans and a member of Fellowship Chapel. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Stewart and Bud Trivette. Survivors include a son, Corley Stewart, Blountville; brother, Clifford Roark, Bristol Tennessee; sister, Ruby Price, Bristol Virginia, and granddaughters, Angela Stewart and Amanda Stewart. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m. Sunday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dennis Burnette officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
