Born in Floyd County, Ky., Dec. 10, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Evan Moore and Adeline Moore. She was a retired LPN, former employee of Grundy Hospital, member of Tookland Pentecostal Church, had served as Ladies Auxiliary volunteer at Buchanan General Hospital and was a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Colbert Tackett, second husband, Howard Anderson, two sons, Roger Anderson and Howard Anderson Jr., infant daughter, two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Anna Rae) Keene of Grundy; one son, Donald M. Anderson and wife Claudette of Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Gertrude Martyn of Baltimore; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Iva Hopper BRISTOL, Va. – Iva Elizabeth Babcock Hopper, age 93, formerly of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at NHC nursing facility in Bristol Virginia. She was the mother of Dr. Barry L. Hopper of Bristol Tennessee. Iva was cared for by NHC following her husband’s death in Maryville in April of 1999. Iva was born in Sunbright, Tenn., and received her B.A. degree from Maryville College. She taught elementary school in Anderson County and lived in Clinton, Tenn. She moved with her husband to Maryville in 1962, where he was associated with Miller Funeral Home. She taught at Fort Craig Elementary School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maryville. Mrs. Hopper was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Wilbur L. Hopper, parents, Clarence and Mae Bullard Babcock, sister, Helen Criddle, and two brothers, Cecil Babcock and Ray Babcock. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cecil L. Weaver PINEY FLATS – Cecil L. Weaver, age 82, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Bluff City, who had lived most of his life in Piney Flats. He was a son of the late Robert T. and Laura Belle Smith Weaver. Mr. Weaver was retired from Tennessee Eastman Company. After retirement, he continued farming until the time of his illness. He was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, two brothers and a sister also preceded Mr. Weaver in death. Survivors include his wife, Nelle Snapp Weaver; his son, John R. Weaver, Piney Flats; two daughters, Kathy Chapman and Nancy Wortham, both of Piney Flats; two sisters, Alma Saylor, Jonesborough, and Dorothy Klingensmith, Debary, Fla.; a brother, J.D. Weaver, Bluff City; five grandchildren, Brad Chapman, Kelley Chapman, Betsy Wortham, Laura Weaver and Mitchell Weaver, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral service for Cecil Weaver will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Estel Williams will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Edgefield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Cross, Lawton Saylor, Bob Hudson, Jerry Dempsey, Mitchell Weaver, Brad Chapman, Lewis Sluder and Lynn Cross. Tommy Robert Whited RAVEN, Va. – Mr. Tommy Robert Whited, age 69, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness. Born in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Felix and Elizabeth Hess Whited. He was a life-long resident of Raven. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Maggie Whited, his wife, Elizabeth Jane Dye Whited, one son, Larry Wayne Whited, sisters, Polly Rose Whited and Sara Jane Gratin, and brothers, Andy Whited, Leo Whited, Glen Whited, Burkley Whited and Fuller Whited. He is survived by four daughters, Linda Sue Whited of Clarks Valley, Va., Patricia Lynn Hill of Cedar Bluff, Beverly Ruth Shelton of Raven and Rebecca Ann Tucker of Swords Creek, Va.; five sisters, Doris McGhee, Joyce Compton, Billy Wilson, Sally Gibson and Lucy Boyd, all of Raven; six brothers, Walter Whited of Martinsville, Va., Felix Gerome Whited of Doran, Va., Willard Whited of Raven, Roger Whited of Raven and Darrell Whited and June Boyd of Swords Creek; four grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson also survive. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at the Richardson Cemetery on Horton Ridge, Va., with Rev. Jimmy Richardson officiating.
