Survivors are son, David Martin Bowman, Ringgold, Ga.; daughter, Gail Long, Rock Spring, Ga.; sister, Lena Tilley, Murrells Inlet, S.C., and grandchildren, Nathan and Dylan Long. Dotson WISE – Scottie Christopher Dotson, 32, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Norton. He was a graduate of J.J. Billie Marie Fleenor BRISTOL, Va. – Mrs. Billie Marie Fleenor, 74, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at her residence, having fought a courageous battle with heart disease. Mrs. Fleenor was born Dec. 21, 1929, in the Benhams community to the late Joe Bascom and Gladys Hutton Fleenor. She was the wife of the late Kenneth W. Fleenor Sr. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Roger Fleenor Sr. She spent her entire life in the Benhams community, where she and her late husband farmed. In addition to helping with the farming operation, she was principal of the Benhams elementary school. After the consolidation of the community elementary schools, she and her husband operated a general store and gas station which also served as the post office for Benhams and she was postmistress. After closing the store, she devoted herself to her home and raising her children. When her children started school, she became very involved in bettering education in Washington County, becoming an advocate for the schools’ needs. She was very active in P.T.A., both on a local level and on the district level, serving in various offices and helping to establish P.T.A.s in other schools. In 1967, she was honored with a P.T.A. life membership. After her children graduated, she continued to be an advocate for education, even more so as her grandchildren began school. She was retired from Westinghouse Corporation, Abingdon. She was a devoted member of Camp Ground United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School superintendent for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She is survived by her children, daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Allen Doss of Damascus; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. II and Terri Fleenor of Bristol Tennessee; sons, Charlie Joe Fleenor and William A. Fleenor, both of Bristol Virginia; grandchildren, Ernie Doss, Khala Campbell and husband Jason, Beth Fleenor, Krystal Watson, Andrew Fleenor, Tessa Fleenor and Kenneth Fleenor III, and great-grandson, Brandon Doss. She is also survived by one nephew, James Roger Fleenor Jr., one niece, LuAnn Jonson, and two aunts, Ora Bowman of Bristol Virginia and Trula Counts of Abingdon. Pallbearers will be Arthur McCroskey, Howard Hutton, Sonny Scardo, Terry Lee Scardo, Eugene Scardo and Dillard Sproles. Mrs. Hodges was a life-long resident of the Bristol area and was the daughter of the late Isaac and Dora Combs Waldron. She was a loving, caring and special wife and a wonderful mother. She played the piano and harmonica and loved to sing. Mrs. Hodges was a member of Bluff City Methodist Church. She was preceded in death in April of 2003 by her husband of 69 years, Stuart Smith Hodges. Survivors include one daughter, Patsy Johnenne Hicks of Ft. A native of Sullivan County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Bertha Hobbs Leonard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Worley Leonard, a son, Douglas Wayne Leonard, two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Leonard was a member of Meadowview Presbyterian Church and a retired employee of Big Jack’s.
