He was a native of Sullivan County, son of the late John Simon and Virginia Morton Boughers. He was a retired self-employed contractor and farmer. He was a member of Central Holston Christian Church, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of King Masonic Lodge 461, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a charter member of Jericho Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita O’Dell Boughers, and a daughter, Paris Marie Boughers. Brown Sr., 86, passed away Jan. 13, 2004, after a short illness. A native of Hot Springs, N.C., he was the son of Bertha and Sidney Brown. He resided in Washington County, Va., most of his adult life. He received his bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College. He earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Florida. He was a member of Green Spring Presbyterian Church, where he served as a former deacon, elder and trustee. Mr. Brown was a teacher in the Cocoa Beach School System before returning to the area, where he served as an educator in the Washington County School System for many years. He served as a teacher at William King High School, as principal of Liberty Hall School, Abingdon Elementary School and Abingdon High School. He was administrative assistant and director of Federal Programs for Washington County Schools for five years prior to his retirement in 1982. Mr. Brown was a kind and giving man who loved his family and gave of himself to the community through various organizations. He served as campaign chairman and president of the Washington County United Way, chairman of the Tobacco Festival Parade, president of the Washington County Education Association and president and secretary of the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon. He held the Madison District seat on the Washington County Board of Supervisors for one term. In addition, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Johnston Memorial Hospital and the Highlands Mental Health and Retardation Services Board. He is survived by his son, Aubrey Elsmere Brown Jr. and his wife Rose Zena Brown; grandson, Jackson Lee Brown of Wilkesboro, N.C.; two daughters, Dr. Mavis Hendricks Brown and Jennie Lou Brown of Richmond; three brothers and their wives, Burgess and Mary Brown, Calvin and Ruth Brown and James Garrett and Grace Brown; two sisters, Margaret Stamey and Jean Barger of the Asheville, N.C., area, and special friend, Eleanor Munsey. She loved church and enjoyed writing countless beautiful songs and poems that she always enjoyed sharing with others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Georgia Hubbard, Alma Stinson, Judy Fuller and Virginia Dellus, and two brothers, James Wheatley and George "Buddy" Wheatley. An Episcopalian, Zandy was a communicant of St. Paul’s Church. She was a longtime member and past Regent of Long Island Chapter D.A.R. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Samuel McCrary Dykes, and her sister, Emily. She was also preceded in death by her husband, DeLeon Malcolm Fields Jr., and her sons, James McCrary Fields and Samuel Francis Fields. Lillian was born in Stonega on March 29, 1914, and devoted her whole life to taking care of her family members, relatives, neighbors and friends. "Lil" had lived in Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Her last months were spent at Heritage Hall in Big Stone Gap, where she became very special to the "new wing" and "skilled-unit" staff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hubbard, one grandson, Roger L. Hubbard Jr., three brothers, Paul Honaker, Herbert Honaker and Garnet Honaker, and four sisters, Nola Stilwell, Elmer Barnhart, Retha Honaker and Ruby Rasnake. Mrs. Lampkins was born in Scott County, Va., on July 10, 1909, a daughter of the late Trigg Darnell and Dora Lane Lampkins. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Lampkins, in 1978. He attended East Tennessee State University on a track scholarship and was a 1976 graduate of Emory and Henry College, a standout in track and football.
