Whitaker, 90, Bristol Virginia Irene Scott Blevins SHADY VALLEY, Tenn. – Irene Scott Blevins, age 81, of 1172 Orchard Road, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, in the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 11, 1922, to the late Robert Winfield and Jennie May Wood Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Blevins, who died in July of 1997, also by two sisters and four brothers. Irene lived in Bristol for a number of years, where she worked at Universal Molding Products. She and her husband moved to LaFayette. Tenn. where they lived for 23 years until moving back in 1995 to Shady Valley. Irene was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Shady Valley, loved flowers, bowling, golfing and gardening. Survivors: one daughter, Janie Dean and husband Howard, Bristol Virginia; one sister, Glenna Barton and husband Bill, Shady Valley; two brothers, Charles Scott and wife Dorothy, Shady Valley, and Taylor Scott, Shady Valley; one grandson, Marty Dean, Bristol Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Irene Scott Blevins will be held 7 p.m. Monday from the chapel of the Henson Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Porter and Rev. Tommy Tester to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Don McAllister. Pallbearers will be James Wood, Mark Gentry, Junior Gentry, Vance Gentry, Bill Stephenson and Marty Dean. Honorary pallbearers will be James Smith, S. T. Gentry and Darrell Brinkley. Burial will be in the Wood-Scott Cemetery on Tuesday. He was born Feb. 7, 1925, to the late Amos and Donnie Price Harrison, and he had lived most of his life in the Bristol area. He was a retired employee from the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center with 30 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, served in the Navy and he was of the Baptist faith. Avis Ruth Maule Mrs. Avis Ruth Maule, age 88, formerly of Allentown, Pa., and a guest at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, Pa., since March, 1992, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at 1:29 p.m. at the Manor following an extended illness. She was born June 18, 1915, in Allentown, the daughter of Albert and Jesse Smith Neipert and was married to Albeno Maule, who preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1986. She is survived by two sons, Robert S. Maule of Saltville and Kerry D. Maule of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Carol Frantz of Tyrone, and four grandchildren, Debra Anne Mann, Baxley, Ga., James Maule, Belleville, Ill., Jonathan Maule, Acworth, Ga., and Patricia Twemlow, Brookeville, Md. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family. Mrs. Maule was employed as a health club attendant at the YM/YWCA of Allentown prior to her retirement and before moving to New Port Richey, Fla. She was a member of the Les Dames of the Allentown YWCA as well as being a very active Girl Scout volunteer, having served as the distribution center for Girl Scout Cookies of Lehigh County. Eva Price Neitch MARION – Eva Price Neitch, age 72, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. Born Sept. 7, 1931, in Grayson County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lacy Blaine and Edith Finney Price. She retired as a nursing supervisor with 25 years of service at the Spring Grove Hospital in Catonsville, Md., and was a lover of the outdoors and animals, a devoted wife, sister and an excellent cook. Eva was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star 72 of Marion and the South Fork Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death one month ago by her husband of 52 years, Charles Wayne Neitch, a brother, David Mack Price, and a nephew, Bobby Price. Dorothy Schmidt Dorothy Faye Richardson Schmidt, passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Johnson City Medical Center after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born July 25, 1934, in Emory, Va., to the late Lester and Ella Johnson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman E. Richardson, five brothers, Coy, Edward, Thomas, Robert and Jerry Johnson, and one sister, Mary Stufflestreet. Dorothy was a former employee and volunteer with Bristol Regional Medical Center and a member of First Christian Church in Johnson City. She enjoyed being a member of the Bristol Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Betsy Wortham PINEY FLATS – Betsy Wortham, 14, 580 Allison Road, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at her residence. She was a native of Johnson City and a lifelong resident of Piney Flats. Betsy was the daughter of Bobby Wayne Wortham and the late Nancy Weaver Wortham. Betsy was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church, where she was active with the youth group. She was a freshman at Sullivan East High School. While a student at Mary Hughes Middle School, she was active with the yearbook, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and peer tutoring. She was the state winner of the Reader’s Digest Word Challenge, a Miss Mary Hughes candidate, in the Duke Talent Search, on the honor roll, the cheerleading captain and voted most likely to succeed in her eighth-grade year. Her maternal grandparents, Nell and Cecil Weaver, preceded her in death. Nancy Wortham PINEY FLATS – Nancy Weaver Wortham, 42, 580 Allison Road, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at her residence. Mrs. Wortham was a native of Johnson City and a lifelong resident of Piney Flats. She was a daughter of the late Cecil Weaver and Nell Snapp Weaver and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Betsy Wortham. Mrs. Wortham was an 18-year employee of Wal-Mart of Johnson City. She was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church. Survivors include one brother, John Weaver and his wife Jan, Piney Flats; one sister, Kathy Weaver Chapman and her husband Mike, Piney Flats; two nieces, Laura Weaver and Kelley Chapman, both of Piney Flats; two nephews, Mitchell Weaver and Brad Chapman, both of Piney Flats; special friend, Donnie Chapman, Piney Flats; special cousin and lifelong friend, Becky Smith; three aunts; one uncle and numerous cousins.
