PETERSBURG, Fla. – Pauline Wade Branson, (affectionately known as Nana), age 93, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in Northside Hospital and Heart Institute, St. Petersburg. Mrs. Branson was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Victoria Hawkins Wade. She was born in Washington County, Va., a long-time employee of S.E. Massengill Co., and an active member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church, prior to moving to St. Petersburg in 1958. Mrs. Branson was preceded in death by her husband, William Neal Branson. Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Barger and husband Billie of St. Petersburg; one grandson, Daniel Barger and wife Kim of Sarasota, FL. and one great-granddaughter, Leah Barger of Sarasota. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Jim Carroll LAKE WALES, Fla. – Jim Carroll, 73, died Jan. 17, 2004, at his residence. Born in Bristol Tennessee, he moved to Lake Wales from Tampa, Fla., in 1999. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving for 21 years. He was of the Protestant faith and a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion and the DAV in Tampa. He was the widow of Marian Carroll. Surviving are daughters, Cindy C. Morgan Collins Morgan Collins, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Pine Oaks Assisted Living in Johnson City. He was born in Lee County, Va., a son of the late Earnest William and Mary Belle Colvey Collins, and had lived in Bristol since 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Tolbert Collins; two sisters, Cleo Lusk and Ethel Farley; and a son, John E. Collins. Mr. Collins served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was retired from the N & W Railroad and was a member of West Hills Christian Church and King Masonic Lodge. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Elizabeth Maryanski and her husband, Tom, of Bluff City; two sons, Harry M. Collins and his wife, Betty, of Knoxville, and James A. Dickenson ABINGDON – James Samuel Dickenson, age 82, a resident of 20570 Brumley Gap Road, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004. He was the son of the late James William and Viola Kinzer Dickenson. He was a member of the Brumley Gap United Methodist Church. He was a 1965 graduate of East Tennessee State University. He was a retired teacher from the Russell County School System with 27 years of service. He was also a former employee of Vance Supply Company. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Brumley Gap Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Valley Rescue. He was a member of the Hayter’s Gap Senior Citizens. Mr. Dickenson served as the former chairman of the Brumley Gap Concerned Citizens Group. Mr. Dickenson was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Lee Dickenson; three brothers; and one sister. Emily Slone McCoy GRUNDY – Emily Slone McCoy, 97 years of age, of the Poplar Creek Section of Route 2, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Pike County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Harrison and Mary Smith Slone. She had been a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was a member of Poplar Creek Church of Christ. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her husband, Admiral Dewey McCoy, July 15, 1974. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Verna Jean McClanahan, Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Velvie Mae Cook, Kansas City, and Mrs. Maudene Bowman, Maxie, Va.; one son, Billy Earl Williamson, Big Rock, Va.; 24 grandchildren; 37 great- grandchildren; and 36 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Miller was born on Dec. 27, 1949, in Raleigh County, to the late Thomas Thedford and Helen Mary Omechinski Miller. Mr. Miller was a manager of Shoney’s Restaurant for 25 years and was a co-owner of Bi-Rite Market of Bristol Virginia. He was a member of the Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Craig Miller; a grandson; and a granddaughter. Survivors include: one daughter, Leisa Harrelson, of Ridgefield, S.C.; one son, Thomas Wayne Miller II, of Goodsprings, Ala.; one sister, Mary Ann Miller, of Bluff City; four brothers, Louis T. Moore Jr. Theodore Darius Moore Jr., age 74, died on Jan. 20, 2004, in Johnston Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Marlinton, W.Va., on June 20, 1929, and was the son of the late Theodore D. Moore Sr. and Mary Cochran Moore. Ted was a proud graduate of West Virginia University with a B.S. in mining engineering. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retiree of Clinchfield Coal Company, where he was chief engineer. Most recently, Ted was a resident of Westhaven Retirement Living, where he was an avid reader of the Bible and enjoyed playing Bingo. He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church. Ted was a strong-willed survivor of an automobile accident in 1977. While it forever changed his life, it never affected his love and devotion as a husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Jane Shinaberry Moore of Abingdon; five children; and five grandchildren. His children are Theodore D. Moore III of Marlinton, Joseph E. Moore and wife Hope Moore of Manteo, N.C., Stephanie Moore Costarakis and husband Matthew Costarakis of Nashville, John A. Moore of Northern Virginia and Amy E. Moore of Johnson City; his grandchildren are Magen Moore, Brandon Haga, Christine Haga, Sommer Moore and Joseph Moore Jr. A service will be held at Farris Funeral Chapel at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004. Frank Norris LEBANON – Frank Norris, 77, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2004. He was born on Feb. 11, 1926, in Buchanan, W.Va., and was the son of the late Betty Ratliff Norris and Frank Norris of Vinton, Va. He married Wanda Street Norris of Grundy, who preceded him in death. He was a veteran, having served the country with distinction during the Korean conflict. He attended college in Indiana before returning to Southwest Virginia to work as a civil engineer with the Virginia Department of Highways. During the latter part of his career, he was resident engineer in Lebanon, where he resided after his retirement and until his death. A large and loving family and many friends survive him. He leaves behind four sons, Barry Norris of Elizabethton, Michael Norris of Blountville, Frank Arthur Norris of Atlanta and Dwight Norris of Bristol Tennessee; one daughter, Ann Norris Reid of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Peggy Norris Phillips of Vinton, Va., Ruth Norris Yates of Salem, Va., and Nadine Norris Stevenson of Noblesville, Ind.; and one brother, Paul Norris of Meadowview also survives him. Among the many who will miss him greatly, are the family identified above; loving grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, other family members and friends. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Janice Pauline Price CLEVELAND, Va. – Janice Pauline Price, age 61, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in a Lebanon hospital. Born Aug. 12, 1942, in Richlands, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Robert and Dixie Lee Cook Eads. She had spent her early life in the area, had moved to Havre de Grace, Md., and moved back to the area in 1988. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Dwayne Price and Harold Cloyd Price; one sister, Eloise Kiser; and three brothers, Basil Eads, Roy Lee Eads and Thurman Eads. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Eller of Cleveland and Anna Almony of Delta, Pa.; two sisters, Norma Boyd of Lebanon and Phyllis Crabtree of Cleveland; one brother, J.C. Eads of Chilhowie; seven grandchildren, Sherry Eller, Ronald Eller, Elizabeth Eller, Stephanie Price, Angela Price, Valerie Price and Brittany Almony; special godson, Lee Paugh; and a very special friend, A. Rocky Ray Robinson BIRCHLEAF, Va. – Rocky Ray Robinson, age 45, departed his earthly body on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Justine Robinson and the late Collin Robinson, and was a disabled logger. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and Von Robinson.
