He was formerly employed with the Davis-Bessie Nuclear Plant and most recently with the Fermi 2 Plant in Monroe, Mich. She is survived by one son, Bill Young and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Cynthia Jackson and husband Jerry, Jeff Young and wife Molly, Teresa Hall and husband Johnny, Sharon Haupt and Monica McCall and husband Frank; nine great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Doc Haga, and two sisters, Clyde Brunk and Stella Riley. Edgar Blankenship HURLEY, Va. – Edgar Blankenship, 72 years of age, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands. Born in Buchanan County, Jan. 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Annon Blankenship and Lydia Blankenship Blankenship. He retired from General Motors Corp., was a member of the United Auto Workers, a member of the Fountain of Life Church, where he served as a deacon, was actively involved in the Knox Creek Food Pantry and served as board member of the Big Sandy Soil, Water and Conservation Board. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Kiser, one brother, Vernon Blankenship, and brother-in-law, Reverend Gregory Dean Justus. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sybil Dotson Blankenship of Hurley; two daughters, Betty Glasco and husband Gary of Allen, Mich., and Sharon Basham and husband Randy of Hurley; one son, Eddie L. Blankenship and wife Suzanne of Brokenarrow, Okla.; four sisters, Opal Matney Prater of Hurley, Dr. Linda B. Justus of Washington, N.C., Wilma Melvin of Hurley and Barbara Matney of Smithfield, Va., and one brother, Reverend Sanford Blankenship of Manassas, Va. DeMinico, 84, passed away Dec. 30, 2003, at Wellmont Hospice House of Bristol. He was the son of the late Pat and Ermin DeMinico. He was a native of Philadelphia and had lived in Florida for 48 years. He had lived in this area for the past four years. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Jupiter, Fla., and attended St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Tennessee. He was retired and had been self-employed owner of DeMinico’s Nursery. James Michael Fraley CHILHOWIE – James Michael Fraley, age 57, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. Pearl Morrison BRISTOL, Tenn. – Pearl Blevins Morrison, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Jerry and Cora Arnold Blevins and had lived most of her life in the Bristol area. Mrs. Morrison was a member of Gateway Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Morrison. Survivors include son, Roger Morrison and wife Judy; daughter, Regenia Fee and husband Danny; grandsons, Doug and Landon Morrison; brother, Kenneth Blevins and wife Judy, and several nieces and nephews. Mullins, 86, longtime resident of Norton and an attorney well-known throughout Southwest Virginia, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in Los Angeles. Until 1992, he had lived his entire life in Wise County, except for college, law school and his service in the armed forces. From 1992 until 1998, he lived in Tallahassee, Fla., near his daughter and then lived in Los Angeles, near his son, until the time of his death. Mr. Mullins was born in Coeburn on April 19, 1917, the son of George Milburn and Willie Sue Mullins. All of his brothers and sisters predeceased him. His wife, Dorothy McGlothlin Mullins, originally from Richlands, and one son, Leslie W. Mullins, also died before him. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Mullins Washburn, and two grandchildren, Leslie Ann Washburn and Michael Matthew Washburn, all of Tallahassee, and by his son, Michael M. Mullins of Los Angeles. Mr. Mullins graduated from Coeburn High School in 1936, where he was president of his senior class. He graduated from Emory & Henry College in 1940, where he was captain of the football team and student body president in his senior year. He graduated from the University Of Virginia School of Law in 1942, where he was a member of the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review. After graduating from law school, he was an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned to Southwest Virginia in 1946, and was a founding member of the law firm of Greear, Bowen, Mullins & Winston (now Mullins, Harris & Jessee) in Norton, where he continued to practice throughout Southwest Virginia until 1992. His practice consisted largely of litigation and trials, representing a number of coal companies, land companies, railroads, utilities and insurance companies. He was a member of the Wise County Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the highest honors given to trial lawyers in the United States. Mr. Mullins was named Wise County Citizen of the Year in 1982 and was cited for his work as a member of the Wise County Chamber of Commerce Roads Committee in pushing for road construction in Wise County. In 1991, he was granted a honorary citation by Emory & Henry College for his dedication to the community. He also served as a member of the Board of Visitors of Emory & Henry College, chairman of the Advisory Board of Clinch Valley College (now the University of Virginia at Wise), and president of the Kline Foundation. He was a Mason and a longtime member of the Norton Kiwanis Club. Mr. Mullins was also a longtime member of the Norton United Methodist Church, where he served in a number of capacities, including trustee. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Lonesome Pine Country Club. Venie Hill Nave BRISTOL, Va. – Venie Hill Nave, age 87, went to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Ala. Mrs. Nave was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Clarksville, Ga., A daughter of the late Henry and Mary Whicker Hill. She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and a retired employee of Electrolux. Ms. Nave was a member of North Bristol Baptist Church and the widow of Ed Nave. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bruce Wagner; two grandchildren, Susan Sisson and husband Martin and Craig Wagner; two great- grandchildren, John and Claire Sisson; three sisters, Louise Kennedy, Ruth Phillips and Mary Ann Helbert and husband Garland; two brothers, Wilbur Hill and wife Edna and Jack Hill and wife Imogene Hill, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Boone, N.C., and, prior to moving to North Carolina, was a longtime active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bristol Virginia. She worked in the Bristol Tennessee School System and at Virginia Intermont College for many years. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dan Musick. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Harold E. Stophel of Banner Elk; her daughter, Shelia S. Umberger and son-in-law Stan Umberger of Roanoke; her granddaughter, Malina B. Busch and grandson-in-law Andrew Busch of Chicago; her sister, June Musick of Bristol Tennessee; her sister, Ann Torbett and brother-in-law Phil Torbett of Abingdon, and sister-in- law, Carolyn Murray and brother-in-law Glen Murray of Bristol Tennessee.
