She was a native and lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was a daughter of the late William Henry and Elizabeth White Canter. She worked in nursing home environmental services and was a member of First Assembly of God. She is survived by two brothers, William B. Canter of Bristol Virginia and Robert E. Lee Canter of Bristol Tennessee; devoted nephew, Fred Canter, along with several other nieces and nephews. James Delane Carr PINEY FLATS – James Delane "Jimmy" Carr, 56, 493 Mountain View Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Sullivan County, he was a son of the late Wendell and Hazel Hodge Carr. He operated Carr Excavation Service. Mr. Carr was a charter member and on the Pastor’s Council of the Tri-Cities Church of God. He was a lover of horses. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Barbara Carol Lilley Carr; a son, Joshua James Carr of the home; two daughters, Missy Carr, Piney Flats, and Sarah Carr, Gray, Tenn.; two sisters, Janice Norris and Faye McGuire, both of Bluff City, and several aunts, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Tri-Cities Church of God, Piney Flats, at 8 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Richard Bawgus officiating. William Carson Jr. BRISTOL, Va. – William Jerry "Jericho" Carson Jr., 33, died Feb. 1, 2004. He lived most of his life in the Bristol area and was the son of Ruth Christopher Carson and the late William Jerry Carson. He was a graduate of Virginia High School and had worked as a welder in Jacksonville, Fla. He was a loving father, son and brother and will be greatly missed. Jericho, as he was fondly known, is survived by, other than his mother, two sons, William Jeremy Carson and Justin Thomas Carson, both of Johnson City; two sisters, Laura Carson Howard of Bristol Virginia and R. Helen Harris Davis Helen Harris Davis, 71, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Palm Garden of Orlando, Fla. Mrs. Davis was born in Newport News, Va., the daughter of the late Erling Kendall Harris and Stella Smith Harris. She was a former school teacher in Wise and Dickenson County and moved to the Bristol area in 1979, where she volunteered at the Wellmont Hospice House for many years. She had lived in Florida with her son and daughter-in-law since April 2003. Survivors include a son, Noel Harris Davis and wife Mary Miles Davis of Orlando; a nephew, Sam H. Jack F. Harmon BRISTOL, Va. – Jack F. Harmon, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born in Knoxville, a son of the late Dana and Lucy Freeman Harmon, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member, deacon, elder and trustee of Central Presbyterian Church and a member of the Board of Directors of Tri-City Bank. He was president of Huff-Cook Mutual Burial Association and was founder and former president of Settlers Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the King Masonic Lodge of Bristol Tennessee, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Knoxville, the Jericho Shrine Temple of Kingsport and the Kazem Shrine Temple of Roanoke, the B.P.O. Elks and the Around Town Dance Club. He was a licensed commercial pilot and flight instructor. He is survived by his wife, Edith Updyke Harmon, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. McKamey was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army, where he received the following medals: Hand Grenade Expert Badge, M-16 Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. BLACKMORE, Va. – Jackie Ray Pridemore Sr., 54, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville, N.C. He was a former employee of Glenn’s Finer Homes, a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, serving in the U.S. Army, and was of the Baptist faith. Blackmore; four grandchildren, Brandon Ray Pridemore, Kristen Brooke Pridemore, Alexandria Nicole Pridemore and Kayleigh Pridemore; seven brothers, Cleophus Pridemore of Coeburn, Terry Pridemore of Milwaukee, Wis., Texas Pridemore Sr. of Coeburn, Kenneth Pridemore of Verona, Ill., Jimmy Pridemore of Norton, Charles Pridemore of Montgomery, Ill., and Ricky Pridemore of Aurora, Ill., and five sisters, Sheila Gross of Coeburn, Theada Buhring of Littcar, Ky., Sula Gibson of Aurora, Kathy Williams of Norton and Sandra Eldridge of Coeburn. Funeral services for Jackie Ray Pridemore Sr. will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Coeburn, with Rev. Tim Collins and Rev. R.L. Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, with military graveside rites being conducted by the Norton VFW Post 4301. Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and was a daughter of the late Robert C. and Bonnie Worley Booher. She was a member of Bell Walsh Chapter 65 O.E.S. and a member of Fellowship Chapel. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, J.R. "Bob" Smith; two sons, Dan K. Baker and wife Joy of Johnson City and Gary Baker of Bristol Virginia; a stepdaughter, Robin Bouck and husband Richard of Bristol Virginia; three sisters, Dorothy Couch, Shirley Leonard and Janet Farmer and husband Marvin, all of Bristol Virginia; four grandchildren, Chad Baker, Misty Baker, Mindy Baker and William Baker; three step-grandchildren, Hollyava Blevins, Deidra Blevins and Summer Blevins, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Lester MacKinnon and Rev. Scott Price officiating. The committal service and entombment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, in the Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel.
