Robert Roy Cline Robert Roy Cline, age 88, former resident of Bristol Tennessee, went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in the Gateway Nursing Home in Lenoir, N.C. He was born Aug. 3, 1915, in Richmond, to the late Robert C. and Alice R. Church Cline. He lived his life in the Bristol area and attended Valley Pike Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by sister, Mrs. Pansy Caryle, brother, Donald Cline, half brother, William Cline, and half sister, Luella Rudisell. He is survived by three sisters, Pearl Reitzel of Hickory, N.C., Ollie Storie of Lenoir and Ina Welch of Lenoir, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, in the Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel, with Rev. Dale Cline officiating. Davis, age 90, of 1715 Volunteer Parkway, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born on Aug. 19, 1913, in Shouns, Tenn., a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.B. and Ada Absher Viney. Mrs. Davis had lived most of her life in the Bristol area, was a homemaker and a member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor G. Davis, one daughter, Betty Lois Gregory, and one brother, Charlie Robert Viney. Mrs. Davis is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Bob Blevins; four grandsons, Johnny B. Carter, Joseph R. "Joe" Carter, James W. "Jim" Carter and Robbie Blevins; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Rubin and Cora Alice Conley Davis. She was a graduate of Unaka High School. Mrs. Ensor was a homemaker. Judy Frank BRISTOL, Va. – Judy Kay Thomas Frank, age 57, of 1401 New Hampshire Ave., Unit D, passed into the eternal bosom of God Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Frank was the daughter of the late Kyle and Francis Thomas. She was a native of Bristol Virginia, had spent most of her life in the Bristol area and later moved to Freehold, N.J., with her late husband Lester Frank Sr. She later returned back to Bristol Virginia and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Gate City. She later changed her affiliation to the Church of Christ in Bristol Virginia. She was a graduate of Virginia High School, continued her education at the Bristol Commercial College and later attended Virginia Intermont College. She was employed at Virginia Intermont College and later worked at the Department of Social Services for more than 20 years. Her health would not permit her to work this year. She received a special award from the Department of Social Services for the most working person for many years. She leaves to cherish her memory four children: two sons, Lester Frank Jr. and Dean Frank, both of Bristol Virginia; two daughters, Monoca Frank and LaVonda Davis, both of Bristol Virginia; five grandchildren, Caleb Frank, Castavas Davis, Mark Frank, Shannon Frank and Katrell Laurie, and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Morris and Mrs. Frances Riddle, both of Charlotte, N.C. She also had a special niece, Felicia Thomas; three aunts, Mrs. Catherine O. Spencer, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Betty E. Wolfe and Mrs. Elizabeth Simpson of Gate City, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Jerry Johnson BLOUNTVILLE – Jerry Donald Johnson, 83, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, 2004, at Bristol Wellmont Hospice House after an extended illness. Mr. Johnson was born in Chickasha, Okla., Dec. 2, 1920, and grew up in Milwaukee. After graduating from high school, he attended Marquette University for a short time, then joined the C.C.C.s and worked in the North Woods of Wisconsin, before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1940, where he served as a tail gunner on B-17s during the first daylight raids over Europe and later in North Africa. After 55 combat missions, he returned to the states, married, and taught gunnery at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nev., until his discharge in 1945. He moved to the Blountville area in 1948. He was employed by the National Weather Service (NOAA) from 1945 until his retirement in 1976, and was the meteorologist in charge of the weather station at Tri-Cities Airport for most of those years. He was a charter member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Kingsport, where at various times he taught Sunday School, was a member of the Vestry and served as junior warden and in other positions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seymour Leroy Johnson and Florence (White) Johnson, a son, Tansley Alan Johnson, and six brothers and sisters of the Milwaukee area. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Virginia (Bailey) Johnson; two daughters, Patricia J. Mazurkiewicz and husband Robert F., Blountville, and Pamela J. Offield and husband Bob D., Bristol Tennessee; one son, Timothy A. Johnson and wife Cynthia (Tucker) Johnson, Lancaster, Calif., and one brother, Seymour Leroy Johnson Jr., Waterford, Wis. Born in Buchanan County, April 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Vadie Edward Osborne and Nancy Catherine Runyons Osborne. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and a member of the Deel Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer. Mr. Osborne was a loving father, grandfather and an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed deer hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Lester Osborne, and one sister, Ruby Lester. Pauline Baker Prater HURLEY, Va. – Pauline Baker Prater, 59 years of age, of the Left Fork of Paw Paw area, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Omie Hurley Baker. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member of Kelsa Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a homemaker. Mrs. Prater was preceded in death by her husband, Ferrell Prater, Sept. 4, 2001. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy and husband James Patterson, Lynchburg, Va., Mary and husband Randell Estep, Hurley, and Hope Johnson, Hurley; one son, Randy and wife Rebecca Johnson, Hurley; four sisters, Lucille Burkes, Richlands, Sylvia Sullivan, Hurley, Carol Davis, Hurley, and Barbara Vandyke, Bristol Virginia; two brothers, Edison Baker, Haysi, and Rufus Baker, Grundy; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Blaine Johnson, and four brothers, Leon, Peerless, Danny and Alvie Harold Baker. Roger Robinson Sr. Born on Aug. 15, 1950, and raised in Amonate, Va., Roger Lee Robinson Sr., 53, has gone fishing and hunting with God on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at Heritage Hall Health Care in Tazewell, Va. For 22 years, he made his home in the Gratton community of Tazewell. He was the son of Geraldine Farne Robinson of Heritage Hall Health Care and the late Russell Winfred "Wimpy" Robinson Sr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Winfred "Rusty" Robinson Jr. Mr. Robinson proudly served his beloved country as an Army specialist 5 stationed in Hawaii from July 15, 1970, to Feb. 19, 1972. He was a construction worker during the building of the East River Mountain and Big Walker Mountain Tunnels on U.S. 77 in Virginia and West Virginia. He was a coal miner for 29 years. He worked for Olga Coal Company, Coalwood, W.Va., from 1972 to 1977 and for Consolidation Coal Company, Amonate Preparation Plant from 1977 to 2001. He was a member of the UMWA Local Union 2322. He loved nature, the outdoors and was an avid and relentless fisherman and hunter. His prized trophy was a 16-pt. buck which garnered him honors and placed him in the state record in 1999. He was a member of the Tazewell County Sportsman’s Club, Burkes Garden, Va. He was also a member of the Tazewell Masonic Lodge No. 62 AF & AM. Left to cherish his love of life are his wife, Norma Robinson; daughter and son in law, Kzenia Maharani and David Cleveland, and grandson, Richard Kent Garrison, all of Germany, and son, Roger Lee Robinson Jr. of Richlands. He is also survived by two brothers, Danny (Nancy) Starling of Cedar Bluff and John Allen (Sandy) Stevens of Hardy, Ky.; two sisters, Lana (Charles) Haywood of South Carolina and Rita Carol (Bill) Beavers of North Tazewell, Va.; an adopted sister, Elizabeth (Curtis) Coleman, and very special friends, Dennis and Peggy Evans, and their children, Justin and Samantha of Dundalk, Ontario, Canada, and Dr. and Mrs. Ed Tolosa of Tazewell. Also grieving his loss are his nieces and nephews, Shelly Gay Robinson of Zuni, Va., Joshua Daniel Starling of Cedar Bluff, David Wayne Dale, Carl Clifford Dale and Roger Eugene Dale, all of Tazewell, Jacob Ashley and Arian Makayla Stevens of Hardy, Christopher Charles Haywood of Richlands and Leslie Anne Horne, Tazewell. Pallbearers are his beloved fishing and hunting buddies, whom he treasured every moment they went out together looking for the ever elusive big fish and big game, Roger Crouse, Jerry Gallogly, Dillard Keene, Tom Lefler, Charlie W.
