Donald Lee Belcher MAXIE, Va. – Donald Lee Belcher, 56 years of age, of the Belchers Fork area, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Bart B. Belcher Jr. and Dollie Owens Belcher. He was a life-long resident of Buchanan County and a member of Bull Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Vietnam Unit Citation. He was a disabled coal miner. Mr. Belcher is survived by his wife, Nancy Lou Pruitt Belcher, Maxie; six sisters, Velcie Elswick, Abingdon, Mickey Stiltner, Abingdon, Elsie OQuinn, Vansant, Va., Patsy Shortridge, Abingdon, Lois Strunk, Atwater, Ohio, and Sue McKinney, Johnson City; two brothers, Rickey L. Belcher, Harman, Va., and Johnny Belcher, Harman; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Otto, Moscoe and Michael Belcher. Funeral services for Donald Lee Belcher will be announced later by Grundy Funeral Home and will be conducted by Rev. Ronnie Sliger, Elder Howard Daniels and others at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Clevinger Cemetery on Left Fork of Belchers Fork, Maxie. Odus Archie Bowman POUND – Odus Archie Bowman, 83, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Norton Community Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Bowman was born in Wise County to the late Jim and Nellie Bowman. He was married for 53 years to the late Jettie Stidham Bowman, who passed away Jan. 6, 2000. Odus was a retired employee of the Fairfax Virginia School System and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in Italy from 1943 to 1945, and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds he received in Italy. Odus helped preserve the freedom we now enjoy. He attended the Old Regular Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Ollie Bowman Boggs. David Lee Cox BRISTOL, Va. – David Lee Cox, 39 years of age, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, following a brief illness. Born in Indiana, he was a son of the late Henry Thomas and Patty Lou Tyndall Cox. He had been a resident of the Bristol Virginia area several years and was manager of Dixie Pottery, Abingdon. Mr. Cox is survived by two half-sisters, Kim Cox, Omaha, Neb., and Peggy Tyndall, Indiana; two half-brothers, Tommy Cox, Abingdon and Timmy Cox, Abingdon; and parental grandmother, Catherine Cox, Meadowview. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lori Tyndall. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, was of the Baptist faith and was an avid outdoorsman.
