Audnia Strouth Watson, 88, Bristol Tennessee John Dewey Wilson, 94 Robert James Wilson, 76, Honaker Artha Castle KINGSPORT – Artha Hileman Castle, age 88, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at the Indian Path Medical Center. Artha was born in St. Paul, Va., June 6, 1915. She was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Maggie (Robinette) Hileman. She was married to the late Carnes N. Castle, who passed away April of 1988. Artha worked for Borden Mills, known as the Cotton Mills. She was a member of the First Assembly of God of Kingsport, where she was over the Food Ministry, had taught Sunday School and made (things) to send to Missions. She would make her home available to evangelists that was in the area visiting the church and made sure there was plenty of food for them. Artha was a wonderful cook and loved cooking and caring for others. Her life revolved around her church and family. Artha is survived by her children, Clifford and Wanda Castle, David and Charlotte Castle and Wesley and Vivian Castle, all of Texas, Kenneth and Patsy Castle of Blountville and Marie and Charles McIntosh of Texas; her sister, Retha and William Castle of Bluefield, Va.; 12 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren, Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the East Lawn Funeral Home, also 9-10 a.m. Saturday prior to the service and any time at her residence. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God, with Pastor Carl Kelleher and Reverend Robert Turnage officiating. Graveside service will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Gardens in Castlewood. Survivors include his wife, Louise Agee Fachilla, Nashville; daughter, Jill L. Fachilla, Nashville; son, Frank (Shirley) Fachilla, Brentwood; granddaughter, Frankie Fachilla, Brentwood; sisters, Ann Fachilla, Utica, Mich., and Emma Jean Laing, Romeo, Mich., and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Fachilla was a 1948 graduate of Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va., and was a longtime resident of the Emory community. For many years he was an amateur radio operator, and his call sign, W4VBB, was heard around the world. He served as field director for the American National Red Cross at many locations in the United States and internationally. In 1999, he moved to Nashville. Ruby Ovella Griffey MARION – Ruby Ovella Griffey, age 69, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. She was born in Rich Valley to the late Ed and Ida Armstrong and was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include husband, Henry A. Griffey, Marion; two daughters, Brenda Armstrong, Marion, and Beverly Satterfield, Marion; two sons and daughters-in- law, Claude Junior Armstrong and Shelia, Marion, and Timothy Griffey and Kathy, Chilhowie; one sister, Margaret Jenkins and husband Robert, Monroe, Ga.; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; one grandson-in-law; two step-grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive. John Harmon Jackson PAINTLICK, Va. – Mr. John Harmon Jackson, age 77, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Belfast, Va., and was the son of the late Taylor and Bessie Sisk Jackson, both Russell County natives. He had made his home in the Paintlick area all of his life and was a former employee of Barnett & Cyphers, F.H. Hill Casket Co., and a retired employee of Jewell Smokeless Corp. at Vansant, Va. He was a member of the Claypool Hill Bible Church. In addition to his parents, one sister, Nancy Bostic, and three brothers, Reece L., Hobart and Donald Eugene Jackson preceded him in death. She was a native of Washington County, Va., and the daughter of the late Noah and Elizabeth Kingsley. She was the widow of J. Wilson Musick. She was preceded in death by two sons, James W. "Mick" Kinsley Jr. and Alvin Musick. Mrs. Musick was a former employee of the Johnston Memorial Hospital, where she was a nurse’s assistant. She moved to her heavenly home to be with her God and Master. Waiting for her there were her husband, Willie Joe Peters, and her beloved Mommy and Dad, James and Emily Moore Lyon, and all of her 11 brothers and sisters. It must have been a great celebration. Surviving her on earth are one daughter, Louise Bernadette Peters Jones, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Corrie Lyons of Powell Valley, and many loving nieces and nephews, who all had great respect for Aunt Laura. Laura lived most of her life in her Powell Valley, which she dearly loved and beautified with her many flower gardens. She was a dedicated homemaker and devoted supporter of her husband. Their marriage was one of love and devotion to one another. She was a member of Powell Valley Presbyterian Chapel, where she served as pianist for many years. She was a 1933 graduate of East Stone Gap High School. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. George Riner BLOUNTVILLE – George Newton "Buddy" Riner, age 69, of 209 Banner St., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He graduated from Sullivan High School, attended East Tennessee State University and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Buddy retired from Jay Johnson Dodge of Bristol and was previously employed by Holston Defense Corp. He was also a substitute teacher at Sullivan Central High School. Buddy was choir director for 40 years at Gunnings Baptist Church, was church secretary, and treasurer of Seedline Ministries. He was secretary of the Indian Springs Ruritan Club and the voice of Sullivan Central Baseball team. He was a loving husband, father and papaw and an avid lover of sports, especially the Sullivan Central Cougars and the Tennessee Vols. Buddy loved his family and church family, but most of all, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Preceding him in death were his father, George Newton Riner, mother, Nora Riner, and brother, Raymond Larry Riner. Surviving are his wife, Geraldine Sexton Riner; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Roger Campbell; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Sommer Campbell; three sisters, Sonna Kaye Gilliam, Mary Richardson and Faye Tranum, and brother, Leon Riner. Annetta Lynn Snead LEBANON – Annetta Lynn Snead, 52, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. Born July 7, 1951, in Richlands, a daughter of the late Delmas Sparkman and the late Mary Elizabeth Daniels Sparkman, Lynn was a multi-talented individual who was an accomplished artist, a licensed practical nurse and both a licensed insurance and real estate agent, having performed work in all fields during her life. Lynn attended Cornerstone Church in Richlands for many years, where her sister and brother-in-law Tex and Juanita Sawyers serve as pastors. She also attended Lebanon Baptist Church for many years, where she was active in many activities, including serving as both Top 50 and Acteens group director. Survivors include her husband, R.D. Snead and daughter Beth Snead, Lebanon; sisters, Mrs. Tex (Juanita) Sawyers and Mrs. Greg (Diane) Smith and brother, Larry Sparkman, all of Richlands; nieces, Stephanie Williams, Sevarin Smith, Cassie Smith, Kelsey Smith, Ashley Cole and Catherine Sparkman; nephews, Shawn Sawyers, Bradley Sparkman, Blake Snead, Casey Snead and Matthew E. A lifelong resident of Marion, he was the son of the late John W. and Nettie Doyle Tilson, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Tilson, Ruby Widener and Mary Osborne, and seven brothers, Dallas, Lem, James, Orville, June, Harold and Arnold Tilson. Mack worked with Sealtest for over 20 years and was a member of the Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was born and raised in the Bluff City area, but spent most of her life in Bristol. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Trinkle. She was the daughter of the late Robert (Bob) and Lilly Cox Baker. She worked at Monroe Calculating Company for a number of years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Polly Mottern, and three brothers, Clarence, Elbert and Bud Baker. Turpin NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. – Rachel C. Turpin, age 91, formerly of Squire, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at her home. Born March 31, 1912, in Pea Patch, Va., she was a daughter of the late John Frank Keen and Louisa Cole Keen. She was a member of the Squire Freewill Baptist Church, and after moving to Tazewell, she attended the Tazewell Christian Church. Mrs. Turpin was also a member of the Ellison Rebekah Lodge in Squire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.M. (Ken) Turpin, three children, Augustine Turpin, Eloise Rasnake and Lois Turpin, and several sisters and brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Buchanan County, Va., and formerly of Honaker, he lived in Wadsworth, Ohio, and attended the Reimer Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by parents, Jake and Ora Wilson, brothers, Lee, Leonard, Grover, George and Willard, and sisters, Beauty, Myrtle and Gladys. Survivors: wife of 75 years, Ollie (nee Kiser); sons, James (Catherine) Wilson, Walter (Emma) Wilson and Ronald (Shirley) Wilson; nine grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Homer Wilson and Earl (Virginia) Wilson, and sisters, Bessie Tiller, Marie Tiller and Edith (Bobby) Conner. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main St., Abingdon, with Rev. Giles Wilson and Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Robert James Wilson HONAKER – Robert James Wilson, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004. He was born on Feb. 9, 1928, and was the son of the late Sparrell and Ella Mae Carty Wilson. Robert was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Russell County. He was of the Baptist faith. Preceding him in death were his sisters, Marcella Honaker and Edith McGlothlin, and brothers, Banner Wilson, Billy Wilson and Burns Wilson. He is survived by his sisters, Hazel McGlothlin of Honaker and Lorene Turner of Roanoke; a bother, Curtis Wilson of Honaker, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Owens Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Stephen Musick officiating.
