Inda Belle Hall NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. – Inda Belle Hall, age 92, of the Baptist Valley section, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at a Tazewell hospital following a brief illness. She was born at Swords Creek, Va., and was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Ida Belle Breedlove Hale. She had made her home in Tazewell County her entire life. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Tazewell Baptist Church and senior citizens organizations. She was the widow of Jack Hall. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven sisters, Opal Honaker Altizer, Lida Miller, Kate Taylor, Lola Call, Daisy Dye, Hazel Brown and Mary Strouth, and two brothers, Beechamp and Robert Hale. She was the last member of her immediate family. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, a teacher’s aide in the Wythe County School System, a lifetime member of Grover King Post 1115, VFW Auxiliary and a member and past matron of Evansham Chapter 97 Order of the Eastern Star. Lauretta was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly V. Lawson, and two brothers, Rufus Warren "Blackie" Vaughan and J.P. "Phipps" Vaughan. Toby was preceded in death by his wife, Lyda Sue Reynolds, and a daughter, Amanda Reynolds Fields. He attended Duncansville Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, where he saw combat and was wounded. Clay Rowland MARION – A. Clay Rowland went to be with the Lord on Feb. 15, 2004. He was born in Smyth County on April 15, 1917, the son of J.W. and Lillie Rowland. Clay moved to Peach Bottom, Pa., in 1926 and returned in 1935 when he married Anna Rouse. After a few years at Burlington Hosiery, Clay went into the trucking industry in 1951 and worked for Brunswick Corp. and Lemmon Transport. Clay held positions of driver, safety director and vice president of operations. In 1962, Clay and Anna moved to Lancaster County, Pa., where Clay served as operations manager of Chester Carriers, Chester, Pa. Following his retirement after 31 years in the trucking industry, Clay joined Transport for Christ. He was ordained a chaplain in 1973, and he assumed the position of Southeast Region director in 1978. Clay was with Transport for Christ in PA for seven years and traveled a multi-state area speaking and sharing his testimony in churches and civic groups. Clay returned to Marion in 1980 to set up the Mobile Chapel for Transport for Christ and served as chaplain for five years. After retiring from Transport for Christ, doors opened for Clay to travel over Southwest Virginia, part of Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina giving out Bibles, tracts and tapes. Clay received the Honor Safety Award in 1958, Grand Award in 1959 and he earned a diploma as a certified safety director through the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Christian Business Men’s Committee of Lancaster, and the Lions Club. Clay received a teacher’s certificate in music and taught gospel-singing schools. He served as choir director, deacon and Sunday School teacher in various churches. Clay’s life was a testimony of his love for Jesus Christ. A sister, Hazel Hess, Lancaster, and brothers, Richard Roland and Chestnut Level, Pa., Fred Roland, Peach Bottom, and Earl Roland, Nottingham, Pa., preceded him in death. Survivors include wife, Anna Rouse Rowland; two sons, Doug Rowland and wife Shirley, Wytheville, and Bob Rowland and wife Brenda, Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Carolyn Rowland Johnson and husband Jim, Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters, Zella Snider, Quarryville, Pa., and Janet Welch, Peach Bottom; one brother-in- law, Junior Rouse and wife Juanita, Chilhowie; 10 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. Steven Schulhoff ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Steven Eugene Schulhoff, 48, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at his home. He was born in Arlington, Va., on Aug. 14, 1955, son of the late Raymond T. Schulhoff and JoAnn Bartee Schulhoff. He was an avid sports enthusiast, having played on two state football championship teams in Maryland and continued participating in sports by playing in flag football and softball leagues and also enjoyed playing golf. He moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1998 from Laurel, Md., where he lived for 30 years. He was employed by the Contractor Yard in Kissimmee, Fla. He was preceded in death by one aunt, Jannett Bartee Banner, and two uncles, D.L. "Dukes" Bartee and Howard Bartee. He is being brought back to the mountains where he always enjoyed visiting his relatives. He is survived by his daughter, Courtney Schulhoff; one brother, Michael Schulhoff and wife Renee of Laurel; one sister, Jennifer Schulhoff of Laurel; one stepson, Brandon Jamison of Idaho; one aunt, Patsy Williams of Loch Haven, Pa.; one nephew, Orion Dukes Schulhoff of Laurel; one niece, Megan Smith of Laurel; the "love of his life," Elaine Bouck of Orlando, and several cousins. Esther Pearl Trivett BRISTOL, Tenn. – Esther Pearl Trivett, age 90, of 1009 Bluff City Highway, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Weaver Funeral Home. Cathy J. Welch LEBANON – Cathy J. Welch, 44, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at home. Born Feb. 16, 1959, in Russell County, she was a 1977 graduate of Lebanon High School and was a graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College. She was employed as the manager of Hardee’s in Chapmanville, W.Va. She was a volunteer at the Gilbert Elementary School in Gilbert, W.Va., in the Read Aloud program and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra (Toni) Morrison. Survivors include a daughter, Ashley Cassandra (Casie) Welch, Lebanon; her father, Robert E. Morrison, Lebanon; a sister, Karen D. Hess, Lebanon; two brothers, Christopher Morrison, Lebanon, and Robert E. (Pete) Morrison Jr., Spotsylvania, Va.; her former husband, Ernest (Ernie) Welch, Clintwood; three nieces, Ellen Hess, Emily Hess and Erica Hess; a nephew, Rodney Morrison, and special friends, Lisa Ellis, Libby Fields and Penny Kennedy. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Thelmer Wallace Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Lesley Hale, Lawson Welch, David Hubble Sr., David Hubble Jr., Keith Hubble, Paul (Tink) Puckett, James Chafin and Steve Carrier.
