Helen Irene Booher Helen Irene Booher, age 78, formerly of Coffey Street, Bristol, Tennessee, passed away on Feb. 18, 2004, at Hermitage Nursing Home in Elizabethton. Ms. Booher had been the school crossing guard at Haynesfield Elementary School for 25 years and was a member of Fellowship Chapel. She was the widow of Jess Willard Booher. Survivors include: son, Jesse L. Juanita Rife Henson ABINGDON – Mrs. Juanita Rife Henson, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at her home. Mrs. Henson was a native of Stacy, Va., and the daughter of the late Albert and Lydia Matney Rife. She was owner and operator of Henson’s TV Cable, with her late husband, Kermit Alma Henson. She served as bookkeeper for their business. She was a member of Little Martha Old Regular Baptist Church in Vansant, Va., and Highlands Fellowship in Abingdon. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sharon Henson-Looney and her special son, Gordon Steve (Corky) Looney of Abingdon; the twinkle of her eye, her only granddaughter, Amy Paige Looney of Knoxville; her three very special foster grandchildren, who were very dear to her heart, Nicholas, Kim and Matthew; special friends, who were like her children, Peggy and Richard Ball; her oldest and dearest friend, Ruby Matney-Rife; her guardian angel and loyal cat, Peppy; her sisters-in-law, Jimmie Lee Rife of Cedar Bluff, Ruby Blankenship of Hurley, Va., Geneva Patterson of Jamestown N.C., and Alpha Cordell of Green Cove Spring, Fla.. She was the last surviving of her siblings. Born Jan. 23, 1932, in Drill, Va., she was a daughter of the late Flem and Louise Whitt VanDyke. She had resided in the Buchanan county area for 44 years and in the Dismal section for 23 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Matherly; one son, Teddy Mullins; one sister, Virginia Fields; and one brother, Lawrence VanDyke. She was a member of the Middle Branch Freewill Baptist Church and had been a school teacher and a cosmetologist. Mrs. Mondrage was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mondrage, and her parents, Simon S. and Snoda Laura (Silcox) Sutherland. Her survivors include one brother, Pete Sutherland of Dante; three sisters, Lois Rose, Lorraine Stanley and June Rasnake, all of Abingdon; three nieces; and four nephews. Teddy Leroy Watson ANTHONY, Fla. – Teddy Leroy (Doc) Watson, 63 years of age, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at his home. Born in Boone, N.C., May 26, 1940, he was the son of Virginia Lee Greene Watson of Hickory, N.C., and the late Teddy Monroe Watson. He was a retired retail merchant and contractor and was of the Christian faith. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Letta Mae McVay Watson; and two sisters. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Lee Greene Watson of Hickory; three daughters, Sheryl Ward and husband Vester of Grundy, Lisa Deann Miller and husband Taze of Duluth, Ga., and Beth Watson Lawson and husband Mike of Union Hall, Va.; three sons, Thomas Leroy Watson and wife Robin of Abingdon, Teddy Lee Watson and wife Marci of Mavisdale, Va., and Travis Lane Watson and wife Nora of Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Judy Browning of Florida; two brothers, Jim Watson of Coshocton, Ohio, and Dean Watson of Hickory. Elsa Penland Williams ROSEDALE, Va. – Elsa Penland Williams, age 78, quietly slipped the bounds of earth to spend eternity with her Lord on Feb. 16, 2004, from her home in Rosedale. She was born Nov. 22, 1925, at Bucu, Va., and was the beloved daughter of the late Spurgeon and Ura Owens Penland of Bucu, Dickenson County, Va. She was preceded in death by her only brother, Raymond Penland of Dearborn Heights, Mich. Elsa is survived by her husband of 56 years, C.P. She had lived in Bristol since 1952 and was a retired registered nurse and former employee of the Bristol Virginia Health Department. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
