She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Chapman, and a sister, Jerline Neal. She was the loving mother of Monica Minton of Saltville and Deedra Thomas of Glade Spring. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville is serving the Allison family. Clinton Anderson Jr. Clinton Powell Anderson Jr., 83, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. A native of Bristol Virginia, he was the son of the late Clinton P. Anderson Sr., and Louisa Slaughter Anderson. He was married to the late Hazel Wallace Anderson for 42 years. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and retired from Morrison Molded Fiberglass Company, after 52 years of employment. He was a Past Patron of the Bristol Chapter Eastern Star and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Powell was a member of McIver Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Darter Furrow and Edith Anderson Combs, both of Bristol, and Josephine Anderson Morris of Charlotte, N.C., and two brothers, Bruce Anderson of Ponte Vedre, Fla., and George Anderson of Bristol. Powell is survived by his two daughters, Janie Anderson Hull of Bristol Tennessee and Julie Anderson Marsh of Lancaster, Pa.; two sons-in-law, Leroy M. Hull III and John H. Brooks KINGSPORT – William R. "Bill" R. Brooks, 71, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004, at home with his family by his side following a brief illness. Born in Cleveland, Va., the son of the late Hobart and Hattie Bausell Brooks, he resided most of his life in Kingsport. Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean conflict and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) after 40 years of service. He had a passion for gardening and was an outdoorsman. Mr. Brooks was a member of Summerville Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Lillian Brooks Robertson and Juanita Brooks Vaught; three brothers-in-law, Lloyd R. Smith, Robert Vaught and Dan Wallace, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Lillian Wingfield. Mrs. Comer was born on Aug. 9, 1934, in Lebanon to the late Mr. and Mrs. Authur and Elzie Jackson McReynolds. Mrs. Comer worked 27 years at Virginia Intermont College, where she served as secretary to the president at the time of her death. She attended Victory Baptist Church. Mrs. Comer was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Ray Comer, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Irene Cook and husband Don Cook and Edith Robinson, and two brothers, Millard McReynolds and Dan McReynolds. Grace Grubb NORTON – Grace Elizabeth Grubb, 91, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norton. Daymon Haynes NORTON – Ernest Daymon Haynes, 82, of 651 Isabell St. NW, died at his home on Wednesday, March 3. A cancer survivor for 16 years, Daymon inspired other cancer patients and their families by visiting and sharing his experiences. Daymon was born on May 17, 1921, in Ashland, W.Va., and was the oldest child of Robert Newton Haynes Sr. and Ida Danford Haynes. He was graduated from Majestic (Ky.) High School and completed business college in Huntington, W.Va. Daymon earned the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and five Bronze Stars during World War II. He also received the World War II Victory Medal. His Bronze Stars represent action in Europe, including Normandy and the eastern part of Germany. He served in the 438th Automatic Weapons Battalion as an automatic weapons crewman in action in Normandy, northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and eastern Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge. After his return from military service, he graduated from a business college in Huntington, W.Va. He worked in banking and finance and was associated with the Wise County National Bank. After retirement, he was a financial advisor at Glenn’s Finer Homes. Daymon served on various commissions and community projects without pay. These include the Norton commission for a new highway. This commission set prices for the acquisition of highway rights-of-way. He also served the Cancer Board and the Norton Housing Authority. Daymon was active in the VFW and the Lions Club, where he served on various boards and was a member of the local Cancer Board. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Norton, and served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife, Mary Whittington Haynes, Norton, a daughter, Caroline Haynes, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Richard Zody, all of Norton. He doted on all of them. Other survivors include a sister, Frances (Frank) Picklesimer, Southgate, Mich.; four brothers, James (Peggy) Haynes, Jerome, Mich., Robert N. (Betty) Haynes Jr., Lexington, Ky., Ivan (Carol) Haynes, Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Larry (Loretta) Haynes, Piqua, Ohio; two aunts, Ora Haynes Martin, Bassett, Va., and Ella Law, Edgington, Va., and many nephews and nieces. Ruth Jane Jessee ORANGE CITY, Fla. – Ruth Jane Jessee, 91, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004. She was born Nov. 17, 1912, at Fugate’s Hill, Russell County, Va., the daughter of the late Marshall Lee Mays and the late Rachel Mays. She moved to Florida in June 2000, after living on Jessee Street in Lebanon for 63 years. She was the first librarian at the Russell County Library and then worked for many years at the Russell County Health Department. Her husband of 27 years, Grady Jessee, preceded her in death in 1964. Mrs. Jessee is survived by her son, Marshall Jefferson Jessee of Casselberry, Fla. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Allen Jessee officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery. He was a retired electrician with Kress Electric and a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea. Mr. Kress had accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church. Kimberly Dawn Stacy PEORIA, Ill. – Kimberly Dawn Stacy, 38 years of age, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away at the Saint Francis Hospital Dialysis Unit in Peoria Tuesday, March 2, 2004, following an extended illness. Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of Monroe Stacy of Grundy and the late Pauline Slone Stacy. She was a member of the Church of Christ, a graduate of Hurley High School and the University of Virginia at Wise, and a former reporter for the Virginia Mountaineer newspaper. She is survived by her father, Monroe Stacy of Grundy, and stepmother, Shirley Matney Stacy of Grundy; two brothers, James and his wife Rhonda Stacy of Grundy and Danny and his wife Sherrie Stacy of Mouthcard, Ky.; two stepbrothers, Larry and his wife Jeanna Hawkins of Abingdon and Mark Church of Grundy; two stepsisters, Rhonda and her husband Brad Hurley of Hurley, Va., and Marianne and her husband Paul Salmons of Grundy; two nieces, Valeria Miller and Leanne Stacy; two nephews, Travis and Chad Stacy; two great-nieces, Madison Stacy and Cassidy Millerm, and a special friend, Allie Butler of Peoria. Funeral services for Kimberly Dawn Stacy will be conducted Sunday, March 7, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, with Evangelist Michael Trent and Evangelist Hobert Kennedy officiating, with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va. Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Friday afternoon at 5 p.m., with services Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Hobert Spurlock, Jackie Deel and elders and deacons of the Little Prater Church of Christ.
