Andrew Jackson Fry ROSEDALE, Va. – Mr. Andrew Jackson Fry, age 84, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, in a Lebanon hospital. Born July 13, 1919, in Wayne County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Jesse Fry Jr. and Lucinda Nelson Fry. He had lived in this area for the past 28 years and was of the Baptist faith. A U.S. Army veteran, he had served in World War II. He was a retired coal miner, having been employed at Island Creek Coal Company, and a member of the UMWA Local 1374. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Passmore Fry, his second wife, Fannie Dye Fry, two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ann Hylton Fry of the home; two daughters, Polly Hagerman of High Point, N.C., and Mary Stevens of Lexington, N.C.; three sons, William Fry of Louisville, Ky., Charles Fry of Pecks Mill, W.Va., and Dale Fry of Honaker; one brother, William A. Fry of Rittman, Ohio; three stepsons, Scotty Hylton of Doran, Va., and John Wayne Hylton and Steve Hylton, both of Raven, Va.; several additional stepdaughters and stepsons; 12 grandchildren; 13 step- grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Johnny Tiller officiating. Daniel Henderson LEBANON – Daniel Colley Henderson, 88, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2004. Dan was born in Saltville and was the son of the late Matthew and Annie Colley Henderson. He was a member of Copper Ridge Baptist Church and of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge 251. Dan was employed by Owens Funeral Service, formerly Lebanon Funeral Home, for the last 40 years. Three children, Kenneth, Susan and Eddie Lynn, also precede him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Loraine Henderson; his son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Trish Henderson of Bluff City; his brother, Augustus (Gus) Henderson of Kingsport, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Alma Buckles O’Dell BLUFF CITY – Alma Buckles O’Dell, 80, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at her residence. She was a daughter of the late Toy Buckles and Grace Bullock Buckles and the widow of Jennings Clyde O’Dell. She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and was a member of the First Christian Church of Bluff City. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Andrew O’Dell, a granddaughter, Jennings Caitlin Buchanan, five sisters, Beulah Buckles Morrell, Gladys Buckles Eades, Zelda Buckles Harkleroad, Mildred Buckles Campbell and Winnie Buckles Foster, and two brothers, Paul Buckles and George Buckles. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret O’Dell Buchanan and her husband Danny of Bristol and Brenda O’Dell Sizemore and her husband Todd of Cumming, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Della Smith O’Dell of Piney Flats; three sisters, Virginia Buckles Perry of Bluff City, Susie Buckles Raymond of Indiantown, Fla., and Sarah Jane Buckles of Bristol; four grandchildren, Mollie Marie and Andrew Michael O’Dell, Morgan Danielle Buchanan and Colter Grey Sizemore, and several nieces and nephews. Varner POUND – Drusilla Jackson Varner, age 93, passed on March 4, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Norton, after an extended illness. She was a founding member of Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Varner was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Herbert Varner, a son, Billy Ray Varner, granddaughter, Donna Joyce Varner, a sister, Elgia Stallard, and three brothers, Johnny Jackson, Cecil Jackson and Elvin Jackson. Mrs. Varner was former owner of Pound Market, a former employee of the Mick or Mack, where she was a butcher, and operated the deli at Saba Market, Pound. Mrs. Varner was a great gardener and nature lover. Survivors: sons, Donald Herbert Varner, Pound, Bobby Joe Varner, Amelia Court House, Va., and Gary Dudley Varner, Johnson City; sisters, Laura Fletcher, Johnson City, Nora Davis, Charleston, W.Va., and Correna Patton, Front Royal, Va.; a host of friends and loved ones; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Chelsey Compton, and two brothers, O’Neal White and Willard White. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mildred Chafin White; three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Susie White, Lebanon, Clint and Fay White, Castlewood, and David and Cathy White, Lebanon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Doug Johnson, Cleveland, Debbie and Roger Compton, Castlewood, and Ginger and Kim Wallace, Richlands; 10 grandchildren, Melissa McCurdy, Heather White, Kim Sanders, D.J. Johnson, Billy Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Jennifer Cline, Roger (Cracker) Compton, Daniel Compton and Tabitha Owens; also, 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvis White, Lebanon, and several nieces and nephews.
