Hill, native of Haysi Wendell L. Hinkle, 52, Grundy Bertha Lois Mitchell, 76, Saltville Mary Margaret Stevens Powers, 84, Lebanon Olive Bertha Lambert Quesenberry, 80, Richlands Isabel Ellen Barker WISE – Isabel Ellen Barker, 90, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at the Heritage Hall Health Care in Wise. She was born in Harmony, Ohio, the eldest of seven children of George W. and Jessie Dell Trout Butler. Her working years were spent in the Springfield, Ohio, and southern Florida areas. She and her late husband, Winson C. Barker, resided at their home at 223 Spring St., Wise, for almost 20 years and both were members of the Wise Baptist Church. They traveled extensively. Winson died in the early 1997 and Isabel continued to live in their home until the mid 2003. She suffered a serious fall and was, thereafter, unable to maintain her independent lifestyle. She moved to an assisted living facility in Duffield, Va., and only recently transferred to the Heritage Hall, Wise. She is survived by two sisters, Joann Rucker and Esther Hull, both of Springfield, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Wise, with the Dr. Ray Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Beverly Cemetery, Wise. Blanche Call ABINGDON – Mrs. Anna Blanche Call, age 94, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Chesapeake, Va. Born on May 27, 1909, in Saltville, she was a daughter of the late Emmitt Call and Emma Burgess Call. She and her husband, the late Rev. James Henry Call Sr., had lived throughout the area while he served as a Methodist minister for the Holston Conference. She had made her home with her daughter for the last 16 months. Blanche was also preceded in death by a son, Curtis Call, and a daughter, Anna Call Wright. She was member of the Washington Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Millie Mansfield and husband Joe and Acquilla "Kit" Eldredth, all of Chesapeake, and Dorothy Haynes and husband Ralph of Cleveland, Tenn.; four sons, James H. Call Jr. of Yorktown, Va., Albert Roy Call and wife Lillie of Newport News, Va., Arthur B. "Whitey" Call and wife Barbara of Yorktown and Robert Paul Call of Abingdon; two brothers, Sanders Call of Seven Mile Ford, Va., and Dewey Call of Glade Spring; three sisters, Virginia Frye of Chilhowie, Mildred Fullen of Saltville and Mary Harris of Providence, Ky.; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, in the Farris Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Marvin Howard officiating. Mae Oakes Carter SALTVILLE – Mrs. Mae Oakes Carter, age 98, died Friday, March 5, 2004, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradly Carter, and sons, Wayne and Bradly Carter. Survivors: two daughters, June Buchanan and Louise Moore, both of Saltville; three sons, Curtis Carter and Earl Carter, both of Saltville, and Ralph Carter, Marion; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Carter will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, at Ridgedale United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ernest Yeatts officiating. Jeffrey Conrad ABINGDON – Jeffrey Brandt Conrad died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, following a car accident. He was born Feb. 24, 1969, in Baltimore and was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Conrad. He is survived by his mother, Rita Conrad of Abingdon; his grandparents, Verlin and Aileen Edwards of Abingdon, and fiancée, Teresa Abel of Bristol Virginia. A service will be held Sunday, March 7, 2004, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Pastor Jimmie Davidson officiating. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Haysi Funeral Home. Wendell L. Hinkle GRUNDY – Wendell L. Hinkle, 52 years of age, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at his home. Born in Mingo County, W.Va., April 1, 1951, he was the son of the William (Billy) Hinkle and Ollie Ray Hinkle of Oakwood, Va. He was a graduate of Clinch Valley College, where he received his degree in education, enjoyed woodworking, his computers and gardening. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 16 years, Regina Tickle Hinkle of Grundy, one sister, Diana Hinkle Stacy of Grundy, and three brothers, Jerry Hinkle of Mavisdale, Va., and Monroe Hinkle and Danny Hinkle, both of Oakwood. He is also survived by three nieces, two nephews and two great- nephews. Funeral services for Wendell L. Born in Buchanan County Sept. 2, 1944, he was the son of Eunice Coleman Layne Roberts of Abingdon and the late Lawrence Leon Layne. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, attended Grundy High School and was a self-employed auto mechanic. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jim Roberts, one daughter, Marquite Dunlop, and one brother, Larry Joseph Layne. He is survived by his mother, Eunice Coleman Layne Roberts of Bristol Virginia, three daughters, Tammy Walker of Grundy, Marie Layne of Florida and Crissie Layne of Detroit, and two sons, Jeffery Layne of Detroit and Pete Layne of Florida. Olive Quesenberry RICHLANDS – Mrs. Olive Bertha Lambert Quesenberry, age 80, of 501 Brown Ave., passed away Saturday, March 6, 2004, in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in Viers, Va., and was the daughter of the late Arnold and Gracie Arrington Lambert, both Dickenson County natives. She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life and had worked in the automotive factories in Detroit and was a former employee of Barnett Inc. of Richlands. She was a member of the Richlands First Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gratt A. Quesenberry, one granddaughter, Sidney Michelle Harman, and three brothers, Ernest, Ray and Virgil Lambert. Survivors are one daughter, Rita L. Harman and husband Darrell of Pounding Mill, Va.; one son, David Quesenberry of Richlands; one sister, Esta Owens of Rochester, Mich.; two brothers, Stallard Lambert and wife Jean of Abingdon and Alfred Lambert and wife Ruth of Cleveland, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Mayola Day of Ocala, Fla., Joyce Lambert of Tennessee and Katherine Quesenberry of Ocala; one grandson, Darren S.
