The committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, with military rites presented by the Highlands Fellowship Veteran Honor Guard. Bowman, 80, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Wellmont Hospice House. She was a native of Avery County, N.C., and had made her home in Bristol for the past 56 years. She was the daughter of the late Philip Ollis and Lela McKinney Ollis and was the widow of Harry "Bill" Bowman. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Ollis. During World War II, she worked in Oak Ridge, Tenn., at the War Manpower Commission and was a former employee of Enterprise Wheel and Car Corp. Mrs. Bowman was a member of McIver Memorial Presbyterian Church. Survivors include one daughter, Libby Bailey and husband, Barry, of Bluff City; one son, Bill Bowman, of Bristol Virginia; one brother, Edward Ollis, of Michigan; five grandchildren, Shelly Burleson and husband, Jason, Holly Musser and husband, Will, Emily Everett, Hannah Bowman and James Bowman; and three great-grandchildren, Shannon Elliott, Zachary Phillips and Jacob Burleson: and one step-great-grandson, William Musser. Clintwood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Kay Hall DeVault MARION – Kay Hall DeVault, age 64 , died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in the Morristown-Hamlen Hospital in Morristown, Tenn. Born in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Geraldine Garretson Hall, and was preceded in death by a son, Robert Carl Bender. She was a 1957 graduate of Marion Senior High School and a lifelong member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Surviving are one daughter, Kim McClure of Morristown; One son and daughter-in- law, Michael G. and Norma Lopez Bender of Atlanta; Two beloved granddaughters, Meghan McClure Ray and Lauren McClure Ray of Newport, Tenn.; One brother, Gerald L. Mr. Murphy, age 75, of the Big A Mountain section, went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 8, 2004, in a Lebanon hospital. Albert C. Noble BRISTOL – Albert C. Noble, age 95, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at NHC Healthcare of Bristol. He was born May 1, 1909, in Joliet, Ill., a son of the late Charles A. and Florence Smith Noble. He was also predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Marion Stevens of Joliet. He attended public school and graduated from Joliet High School. He graduated from the College of Commerce at The University of Illinois in 1932, with a bachelor of science degree and was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, first from 1942 until 1944 as the commanding officer of an armed guard unit stationed on the SS Stephen, a Merchant Marine transport; and from 1944 until 1945 as commanding officer of Landing Ship Medium 184. In 1964, he earned his master’s degree in economics at East Tennessee State University. He was employed with Standard Brands until 1959, living in Chicago, Milwaukee, Cincinnati and New York City. In 1959, he joined Hecht’s Bakery in Bristol Tennessee, where he was employed until 1961. In 1965, he was employed as a staff and faculty member in the School of Continuing Education and was coordinator of non-degree programs at East Tennessee State University. He retired in 1975. He was a life member of the Bristol Salvation Army and served as chairman. He was also a member of the governing bodies of the American Society of Training Directors, New York City Chapter; the National Association of Training Directors, Bristol Chapter; the American Red Cross; the Bristol United Way and the Bristol Senior Corps of Retired Executives. In addition, he served as a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee, the Bristol Rotary Club, the Industrial Relations Research Society, and is listed in "Who’s Who in the South and Southeast." Survivors include several nieces and nephews. There will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, deductible memorial contributions may be sent to The Albert C. This foundation was established in 1999 by Mr. Noble, for the sole purpose of helping with the building of a new library. The Albert C. Noble Library Foundation, together with the J. Henry Kegley Foundation, paid for the planning of the new library and, last fall, for a campaign feasibility study. Currently, the two foundations are underwriting the costs of a professional firm to help with the planned Library Building Campaign. Mr. Noble is in the care of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory. Robert Odell Peters GATE CITY – Robert Odell Peters, 85, entered into rest Monday, March 8, 2004, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was born in East Stone Gap, Va., July 21, 1918, to the late William Thomas and Pearl Wallen Peters. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Eddie Peters; sister, Mildred Dye; and two brothers, Otis Peters and Talmer Peters. Mr. Peters served in the 116th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, 29th Division with the U.S. Army. He retired from Eastman Kodak after more than 37 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Trustum Peters, Gate City; two daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Michael Webb, Church Hill, Tenn., and Joanne Peters, Gate City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Lynn Peters, Johnson City, and Mark and Donita Peters, Gate City; sister, Clarice Stokes, Gate City; grandchildren, Jennifer Ratliff and husband, Shane, David Webb and wife, Angela and Beth Howe and husband, Rick; great-grandchildren, Allison Howe and Alyssa and Collin Webb; one niece; and one nephew. He was a retired employee of Morrison Molded Fiberglass Company, a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church and had a love for directing and singing gospel music most of his life. Hassell Waldron Yates GRUNDY – Hassell Waldron Yates, 81 years of age, passed away Monday, March 8, 2004, at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy. Born in Buchanan County, May 27, 1922, he was the son of the late George Yates and Emma Matney Yates. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a retired coal miner, having worked 38 years for Harman Mining Company, a member of the UMWA Local Union 7025, a member of the Masonic Lodge 17 AF&AM, where he received his 50-year pin in 1999 and was a member of the Vansant Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Lynn Yates and Becky Sue Melvin; and one sister, Alice Matney. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dolly Mary Keen Yates of Grundy; one son, Bill G. Yates and wife Barbara L. of Kingsport; one son-in-law, Marvin Melvin of Bluff City; one sister, Olegay Fletcher of Grundy; one brother, Linkous Yates of Grundy; three grandsons, Jonathan Yates and Jeremy Yates, both of Kingsport, and Kevin Melvin of Bluff City; and one granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Melvin of Bluff City.
