Louella Patton Cook CEDAR BLUFF – Mrs. Louella Patton Cook, age 81, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at a Tazewell hospital. She was born in Cedar Bluff and was a daughter of the late Carl W. and Hinson Lowe Patton, both Tazewell County natives. She had made her home in the Cedar Bluff area most of her life and was a former nurse’s aid at the Clinch Valley Clinic Hospital. She was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God at Cedar Bluff and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John Ellis Cook, one sister, Mary Patton, and two brothers, Cecil Patton and Thomas Patton. Bruton Fitzgerald, 78, passed into the arms of the Lord and the love of his life, Dell Carter Fitzgerald, his wife of 50 years, on Friday, March 12, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. His family was gathered around him as he succumbed to complications from pneumonia and a heart attack. He was born in Greenville, N.C., a son of the late Robert G. and Myrtle Bruton Fitzgerald, and was reared in Candor, N.C. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and received his degree in textile engineering in 1949 from North Carolina State University, where he played tailback for the Wolf Pack Football Team. He was a devoted and active alumni and a member of the Wolf Pack Club. Mr. Fitzgerald was affiliated with Burlington Industries for over 40 years and served as plant manager of the Bristol and Mountain City Divisions. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church for 35 years and was a member of the chancel choir and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Bristol Host Lions Club and was a past president of the Southeastern Band Festival. Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Fitzgerald Kelly and her husband Rick of Kingsport and Rebecca "Becky" Fitzgerald Strouth and her companion Jeff Davis of Bristol; his son, Bill Fitzgerald and his wife Tonya of Knoxville; a sister, Eleanor Chappell of Candor; a brother, Paul Fitzgerald of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Jessica, Joslyn and Kaitlin Kelly, Emily Strouth and Morgan and Erinn Fitzgerald, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Robert "Bobby" Fitzgerald. Born on Jan. 1, 1931, in Richlands, he was the son of the late John and Etta Blankenship Osborne. Mr. Osborne honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and Navy during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of G & J Upholstery in Abingdon. Mr. Osborne was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Survivors include his wife, June Osborne of Johnson City; two daughters, Teresa Greer of Knoxville and Rita Bartholomew of Johnson City; three grandchildren, David Brad Bartholomew, Kristin Bartholomew and Logan Bartholomew; one great- granddaughter, Lily Bartholomew; five sisters; three brothers and several nieces and nephews. The graveside and committal service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn., with Mr. Tom Corcoran officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m. Tuesday to go in procession to Mountain Home. Edith Mildred Sneed RICHLANDS – Mrs. Edith Mildred Sneed, age 89, passed away Friday, March 12, 2004, in a Richlands hospital following a long illness. Born in Russell County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maxine Stevens Tiller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cortis C. Sneed, a son, Ronnie Lee Sneed, four brothers and two sisters. She was a member of the Davis Mountain Pentecostal Holiness Church. She is survived by one son, Arvin Sneed and wife Micheal of Odem, Texas; three daughters, Gloria Jean Salvatore and husband Richard of Elizabethton, Tenn., Barbara Ann Horton and husband Ronnie of Short Gap, Va., and Patricia Byrd and husband Noah of Richlands; two brothers, Paul Tiller of St. Augustine, Fla., and Arnvil Tiller of Roanoke; two sisters, Susie Holmes of Richlands and Eramae Thomas of Winter Haven, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive. Ricky Whitmore BRISTOL, Tenn. – Ricky Matthew Whitmore, age 35, of 328 Midway Drive, passed away on March 12, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was the son of Robert McDaniels and Helen Elizabeth Whitmore and was of the Methodist faith. Surviving, besides his parents, are grandmother, Narcie Whitmore; sisters, Margaret Elizabeth Smith and Helen Virginia Mills, and brother, Steven Douglas Mills.
