Mr. Carroll was a veteran of World War II, having served three years in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School and the University of Tennessee, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was an engineering supervisor with Sperry Rand Corporation in Bristol Tennessee. Mr. Carroll was a former member of the Bristol Evening Lions Club and the Bearden Lions Club. He was a former member of State Street United Methodist Church in Bristol Virginia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and treasurer of the Christian Forum Class. Cylden Cordell MEADOWVIEW – Cylden Lawrence Cordell, a retired coal miner of 41 years, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on March 14, 2004, with his devoted family by his side. Cylden was 76 years old and was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church in Meadowview. He was well-known for his loving nature and his slapstick humor. His kind heart knew no boundaries and his gracious soul never knew a stranger. He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him. His spirit will live on in the lives of the family members that he touched so dearly. Cylden was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Bert Cordell and Salley May Bragg Cordell, his sisters, Irene Alifair Cordell Jones and Virginia Madie Cordell Trent, and brothers, Cecil Burton Cordell and Kenneth Cordell. William Wayne Faddis MARION – William Wayne Faddis, age 77 , of Mount Laurel, N.J., died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the home of his daughter. Born on July 31, 1926, in Smyth County, Va., he was the son of the late William Wesley and Okie Mae Atkins Faddis. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and Air Force. He was a former resident of Bluefield, W.Va., and Crewe, Va., and was retired from Norfolk and Western Railway, with over 40 years of service. (1956) and Nancy Coffman (1960); her husband, Hobert Ford (1982); a son, Edsel Ford (2001); a sister, Lottie (1927), and a brother, James P. Coffman (1975). A native of Carter County, he was a retired rural letter carrier with the Elizabethton Post Office, after 30 years of service. He served as a county commissioner for 10 years. Mr. Newton was a member of the Borderview Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. Survivors include his wife, Kay Gentry Newton; two sisters, Charlotte Newton and Joan Bowers, both of Melbourne, Fla.; two nieces, Dianna Farris and Robbye Jo Rossi; three nephews, George "Sonny" Eller, Dr. David W. Robbins, age 81, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Mountain City Care Center in Mountain City, Tenn. She was a native of Crandull, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late J.F. Parsons and Maude Gentry Parsons. She had lived in Florida from 1965 to 1990, when she moved back to Shady Valley. She was a member of the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Robbins was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Noonkester, her second husband, Fred Robbins, a son, James Robbins, a sister, Betty Parsons, a brother, Charles Parsons, two grandchildren, Joy Noonkester and Bobby Noonkester, and a great- granddaughter, Alexis Noonkester. She is survived by two sons, Robert Noonkester of California and Doug Noonkester and his wife Nina of Sterling Heights, Mich.; five sisters, Georgia Burnette of Beckley, W.Va., Carol Harper, Gloria Jinright and Linda Pruitt, all of Dunnellon, Fla., and Dorothy Hedges of Lawton, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
