Mrs. Carrier was born in Bristol Tennessee and resided most of her life in Kingsport. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack R. Carrier Sr., her parents, Keebler Alexander Leonard and Rebecca Annis Leonard, and her sisters, Mamie Stevenson, Dewey Carter, Frances Herndon, Cecile Repass and Bonnie Haga. She is survived by a son, Jack R. Carrier Jr., a daughter, Ann Marie Carrier, and brothers, Hagan Leonard and J.B. Leonard. Willie Desmon Cook BRISTOL, Tenn. – Willie Desmon Cook, age 81, of 608 Tennessee Ave., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Cook was a native of Logan County, W.Va., but had spent the last 20 years in the Bristol area. He was a member of the Charity Pentecostal Tabernacle Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Ann Reed, Michelle Bevens and Barbara Branscomb, all of Bristol Tennessee, and Lori Robertson of Bristol Virginia; three sons, Willie Mullins, Bristol Tennessee, Calvin Cook, Bristol Virginia, and Michael Robertson Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Lou Finley of Huntington, W.Va., and Vaudilene Miller of Brenton, W.Va.; one brother, Jack Cook of Mannassas, Va.; also surviving are 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Military graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, at the National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn., with Rev. Jimmy Epperson officiating. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late William Graham and Elizabeth Hagy Looney. She was a resident of Buchanan County several years prior to moving to Florida and was a member of Grundy Church of Christ. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and was a homemaker. Her favorite sport was bowling. Mrs. Looney was preceded in death by her husband, Albert M. Looney, Aug. 31, 1988. Neely CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gladys Fleenor Neely, 77, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, in Presbyterian Hospital. She was a native of Bristol Virginia and graduated with honors from Valley Institute High School. She was a devoted wife and homemaker, loved nature walks, photography and thoroughly enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, along with her husband, James Robert Neely Jr. Her absence will be felt by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, James Robert Neely Jr.; three daughters, Nancy Fernandez and husband Gary, Jenny Taylor and Phyllis McGalliard and husband Charles; a son, David Neely and wife Ann; a sister, Hazel R. Fleenor of Bristol Virginia, and two brothers, Paul Fleenor and wife Ethelyn of Bristol Virginia and Bruce Fleenor of Charlotte. Greg Barrett Patrick Mr. Greg Barrett Patrick, age 41, formerly of Richmond, Ky., passed away suddenly Saturday, March 20, 2004, at his home in San Antonio. Born Jan. 29, 1963, in Farmville, Va., he was a son of Dr. Alfred and Peggy Barrett Patrick of Richmond. He was a graduate of Model Laboratory School and was a member of Parkhills Baptist Church in San Antonio. He entered the military service with the Richmond Army Reserve unit, transferred to active duty, and served 15 years in several prestigious assignments, including the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Office of the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Pentagon. He was medically retired in 1998, spending his last six years as the proud home dad to his two youngest daughters. He was passionate about life. One of his greatest accomplishments was climbing Mt. Rainier in Washington last summer. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Dr. (Major, U.S. Army) Marsha Brenno Patrick of the home; one son, Matthew Gregory of Houston; three daughters, Marina Jade of Houston and Amanda Morgan and Aubrie Anna, both of the home; one sister, Pamela (Dale) Meskimen of Lakeland, Fla.; his paternal grandmother, Beulah Patrick of Honaker; two aunts, Patricia (John) VanDyke and Frieda (David) Davison of Spartanburg, S.C.; one uncle, Fred (Joanne) Barrett of Elkton, Md.; an adopted aunt, Shirley (Raymond) Belcher of Honaker; three first cousins, David (Ruth) VanDyke of Sumerduck, Va., Matthew (Kristen) Barrett of Galena, Md., and Jessica (Matt) Koenigsberg, Baltimore; parents-in-law, Merle and Helen Brenno; one brother-in-law, Shane (Cheryl) Brenno of Kalispell, Mont., and two nieces and several cousins also survive. Powers CASTLEWOOD – Shirley Helen Powers, 68, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, after a brief illness. She was born in Scott County, Va., raised in Bristol Virginia, and spent most of her life in Dickenson County, Va., before moving to Castlewood. She was the daughter of the late Bascom and Mary Alice Davis Bellamy. She graduated from Virginia High School, Bristol Virginia. She worked at Hanging Rock Clinic for 10 years. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a gentle, loving and caring person, and she loved her garden and flowers. She was a proud survivor for 10 years of lymphoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Powers, one grandson, Rickie Dale Slemp Jr., and one sister, Jerry Blaylock. She is survived by two daughters, Kitty Kiser and husband Buck of St. Paul and Carleen Powers of Castlewood; one son, Tony Powers and wife Trish of Gray, Tenn.; two sisters, June Campbell of Lexington, S.C., and Shelby Chapman of Surfside Beach, S.C.; special friend for 13 years, Stan Banner of Castlewood; a special dog, Belle; three grandchildren, Michelle Powers, Tony Powers Jr. and Hannah Beth-Helen Stewart; one great-granddaughter, Abbagail Faith Elrod, and several nieces and nephews.
