Tracy Lynn Ball BLOUNTVILLE – Tracy Lynn Ball, age 34, of 1702 Highway 126, Lot 2, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at her residence. Ms. Ball was born on Nov. 9, 1969, in Bristol Tennessee, the daughter of Linda Cunningham and stepdaughter of the late James "Jim" Cunningham. Ms. Ball had lived all her life in the Bristol area and was an employee of Sprint, where she worked as a customer service representative. Ms. Ball is survived by her mother, Linda Cunningham of Piney Flats; her grandmother, Evelyn Leonard, Bristol Tennessee, and two stepbrothers, Jimmy Cunningham of Middletown, Ohio, and Jason Cunningham of Bristol Tennessee. Helen Branca BRISTOL, Tenn. – Helen Crigger Branca, age 88, of 100 Ash St., went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Branca was a native and lifelong resident of the Bristol area. She was the former owner and operator of Glover Cleaners of Bristol Tennessee and was a former employee of Joe Belle Hat Shop, H.P. King Co., Sears, Nettie Lee Shop and VI College. She was a member of Central Christian Church and was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year for 1979-81, by the Slater Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband Ervy Crigger and second husband, Anthony A. Branca, and two brothers, Eugene Glover and James Glover. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Edd (Jerlene) Forrester of Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Ruth Jordon of Bristol Tennessee, Mary Marsh, Detroit, and Wayne White of Roanoke, and one brother, A.C. Glover Jr. of Fredericksburg. Also surviving are two granddaughters and husbands, Debbie and Kenny Isley and Tina and Mark Teaster; a very special step-grandson, Landon Teaster, and several nieces and nephews. Carol Cate MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Carol Ann Thompson Cate, age 57, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center following a battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Bristol Tennessee, and was the daughter of the late Wiley and Corinne Hayter Thompson. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Memphis with a B.S. in nursing and was employed as an administrative assistant in the Graduate Admissions Department for the University of Tennessee. She was a member of the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church of Knoxville. He was a native of Marietta, Pa., and was the son of Bill and Mary Agnes Testerman Cox of Damascus. John had lived in Damascus since 1972 and was of the Baptist faith. She was born on Jan. 2, 1932, the daughter of the late Frank and Nellie Birkenmayer. She married on July 14, 1967, to Jackie W. Gahr, who predeceased her on Feb. 27, 2002. She was a member of the Souls Harbor Apostolic Church of Bristol Virginia. Mrs. Gahr was retired from the nursing field. She enjoyed gardening, loved animals and was always on the "go." She enjoyed her trips to Vegas as well. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Sue Allen of Atlanta, Craig and Eva Allen of Kuwait City, Kuwait, and Todd and Wanda Allen of Bristol Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Jim Powell of Pearisburg, Va., and Tracy and Russell Smith of Dill City; 10 grandchildren, Matt, Kristina, Chris, Kayla, Linda, Breanna, Dalton, Dillon, Kristin and Branden, and one great-grandchild, Payton. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six children, four sisters, three brothers and one great-granddaughter. Edna Patton Maggard CEDAR BLUFF – Edna Mae Patton Maggard, age 81, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 1, 2004, in a Tazewell nursing home, where she had been a resident the past three months following a lengthy illness. Born in Tazewell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ballard C. and Ethel Mae Patton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Lee Stilwell, one sister, Johnnie Agnes Patton, and one brother, Robert C. Patton. Mrs. Maggard was a resident of Baltimore for many years before moving back to Cedar Bluff three years ago. She was a supervisor of the cafeteria with the John Deere Corporation for over 30 years in Baltimore. She was a member of the Church of God in Baltimore. She was a loving and devoted sister, enjoyed being with friends and neighbors and showed expression of love and help to those crossing her path. She is survived by three sisters, Marie L. Patton Pastor of Hertford, N.C., Pauline E. Patton German and husband Buck of Arnold, Md., and Lorraine Patton Robinson and husband Dean of Marion; one brother, Charles J. Patton and wife Pearl of Cedar Bluff, and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was born in Dickenson County, Va., daughter of the late Clabe and Nora Jenkins Jennings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kedrick M. Powers. She made her home in Castlewood for the past 15 years and for the last month she resided at Mountain View Retirement Home in Lebanon. She was a retired manager from Russell County School System, Cleveland Elementary School. She was a member of the House of the Lord Church in Castlewood. She is survived by two daughters, Pam Williams of Johnson City and Teresa Hale of Johnson City; two sons, Terry W. Powers of Rosedale, Va., and Denny C. Buell Queen, 96, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Indian Path Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born June 26, 1907, in Bell County, Ky., to Jim and Pollyann Buell, and had resided most of her life in Clintwood. Roxie was married June 25, 1927, to Allen Queen and, following his retirement from the coal mines, they moved to Kingsport. She was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Queen was very attached to and had a great love for all children, but loved her family most of all. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Queen, a daughter, Elizabeth Sutherland, infant twins, Linda Carol and Roger Carl Queen, six brothers and three sisters. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lyons and husband Jim, Kingsport and Norma Griesdorn and husband Bernie, Lima, Ohio; one son, James Queen and wife Zeable, Kingsport; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a special brother-in-law, Denver Sturgill and wife Ruth, Norton, and several very special nieces and nephews. Stout, age 49, 143 Howard Lipford Dr., died Friday, April 2, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son Marvella Johnson Williams, Elizabethton, and the late Robert Eugene Stout. He was a carpenter. Mr. Stout was a 1972 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Stephanie Leann Stout, several aunts and uncles and stepfather, Burt Johnson. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his stepfather, Jasper Williams, Elizabethton; two brothers, Ronnie Stout, Elizabethton, and Michael Johnson, Bristol Tennessee; two aunts, Jan Kinzalow, Oxford, Ga., and Judy Ford, Elizabethton; two nieces and three nephews also survive. Taylor, age 77, passed away early Thursday morning, April 1, 2004, at his home. He was born at Wise County, Va., and was a lifelong resident of the county. He had also been a member of the Royal Arch and the Commandry. Jack was also a U.S. World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Wise Chapter 56. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a son of the late Robert and Mollie Stapleton Taylor and was also preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Mullins, Juanita Williams and Otellia Taylor, and three brothers, Charles Taylor, Clayton Taylor and James Taylor.
