Beulah Elkins Fields RICHLANDS– Mrs. Beulah Elkins Fields, age 91, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Russell County Medical Center at Lebanon. Born on Oct. 14, 1912, in Russell County, she was the last earthly member of the immediate family of her parents, the late James F. and Mary Jane Horton Elkins. She was a faithful member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church at Richlands. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James (Kelly) Fields, two sisters, Oakley West and Ada Brown, and two brothers, Grant Elkins and Paul Elkins. Mrs. Fields is survived by several nieces and nephews. Carr Jones of Galax and served with him as the wife of a minister of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, Charles (Gene) Jones and daughter-in-law, Irene Jones of Glade Spring; two grandsons, Ian T. Jones, currently serving in the U.S. Navy, Sasebo, Japan, and Nathan A. Messick RAVEN, Va. – Mrs. Mamie S. Messick, 85, of Raven, passed away Friday, April 9, 2004, in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Buchanan County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Mandy Osborne Stilwell, both Buchanan County natives. She had made her home in the Raven area all her life and was a member of the Fork Ridge House of Prayer in Raven. The family members would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Drs. Alva Gene Perkins HONAKER– Mr. Alva Gene Perkins, age 58, Wysor Valley Road, passed from this life into everlasting life, along with his son and grandson, on Saturday, April 10, 2004, from a farm tractor accident at home. Born Aug. 21, 1945, at Lynn Spring, Va., he was a son of Baxter Perkins of Raven, Va., and the late Hazel Dye Perkins, making his stay on this earth 58 years, seven months and 20 days. He moved to Wysor Valley when he was six years old and made it his lifelong home. He was a disabled coal miner, having worked for Clinchfield Coal Company for more than 22 years. He loved working on his farm and taking care of his cattle. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior on June 1, 2003, the same day his son, Christopher, accepted Christ. They were both baptized the next Sunday and joyously served the Lord for 10 months. He attended Valley View Free Will Baptist Church in Wysor Valley and Revival Center in Swords Creek. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Dane Perkins, one grandson, Colton Dane Perkins and two brothers, Leslie Perkins and Ferrell Perkins. In addition to his father, survivors include his wife of 37 years, Janet Osborne Perkins of the home; one son, Douglas Perkins of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandsons, Grant Perkins of Chestertown, Md., and Devon Mark Perkins of Moneta, Va; one granddaughter, Joanie Lynn Perkins of Moneta; two sisters, Narcie Dye and Roberta Fields, both of Honaker; one brother, Roger Perkins of Honaker; his stepmother, Dorothy Perkins of Raven, Va.; one special brother, who was his sidekick on the farm, Roger Whited; and a host of relatives and friends, who will mourn their loss. Christopher Perkins MONETA, Va.– Mr. Christopher Dane Perkins, age 32, passed from this life into everlasting life, along with his father and son, on Saturday, April 10, 2004, from a farm tractor accident in Honaker. Born July 16, 1971, in Richlands, he was a son of Janet Osborne Perkins of Honaker and the late Alva Gene Perkins, making his stay on this earth 32 years, eight months, and 24 days. He had lived in the Honaker and Lebanon areas before moving to Moneta three years ago. He was a 1989 graduate of Honaker High School and attended Southwest Virginia Community College. He was presently employed as a supervisor at Thermo King in Roanoke. He loved hunting and fishing and being with his family. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior on June 1, 2003, the same day as his father, Alva, accepted Christ. They were both baptized the next Sunday and joyously served the Lord for 10 months. He was a member of the Revival Center at Swords Creek, Va. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Colton Dane Perkins, and his father-in-law, Tommie C. Deel. Born July 21, 1999, in Bristol Tennessee, he was a son of Rebecca Deel Perkins and the late Christopher Dane Perkins. He loved Jesus and loved going to church. He attended the Revival Center at Swords Creek, Va., and loved to quote memory verse to all who would listen. He would have been in the kindergarten class at Moneta Elementary School this fall. He was a very loving and special little boy to all who knew him. Nancy Pyle Venable ABINGDON– Nancy Pyle Venable, age 83, a resident of 268 Stonemill Road, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Russell County, Va., who lived in Washington, D.C., before moving to Bristol Tennessee, where she later retired as a surgical nurse at Bristol Memorial Hospital. She was a 1946 graduate of Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Pyle Jr., and was the widow of Kieth Venable. Survivors include: a stepdaughter, Mrs. Betty Flick of Cookeville, Tenn.; one niece, Kay Vicars of Fresno, Calif.; and two nephews, James Pyle of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and Paul Pyle of Bristol Virginia.
