William Larry Adkins BRISTOL, Va. – Mr. William Larry (Bill) Adkins went to be with the Lord April 12, 2004, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, W.Va., following a tragic automobile accident. He was born on April 22, 1932, in Harts, W.Va., to Mose and Kearnie Carter Adkins, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Smith Adkins, on Oct. 12, 2003. He was employed by Sears as a Regional Consultant. He later owned a Sears Catalog Store in Lebanon for 14 years prior to retirement. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Lebanon Baptist Church, Lebanon. The family wishes to acknowledge his "walking buddies" at Bristol Mall. Survivors include his son, David Boice Adkins of St. Charles, Mo.; a granddaughter, Amy Adkins; twin grandsons, Adam and Anthony Adkins, and their mother, Dianne Adkins. He is also survived by two brothers, Virgil Adkins and wife Donna and Raymond Adkins and wife Thena; two sisters, Alice Marcum of Charleston, W.Va., and Pansey Toler of Oceana, W.Va.; one half brother, Phillip Kelly Adkins of Ravenswood, W.Va.; two stepbrothers, Nathan and Vernon Marcum of Greenview, W.Va.; one stepsister, Brookie Burgess of Greenview; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Bernice Nash of Bristol Tennessee. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2004, at Farris Funeral Chapel. Reverend Larry Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon. Pallbearers will be cousins and nephews. She was born in Scott County, Va., a daughter of the B.Z. and Dulcie Booher. She was a homemaker and loved to cook, bake, sew, quilt, crochet and cross stitch. She was a member of Cherokee Community Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Pullon and Roxie Mullins, and her first husband, Guy Faulkner. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Worley Crusenberry; one sister, Lannie Fauver of Blountville; two brothers, Edward Booher and Grady Booher, both of Bristol Tennessee; two stepsons, Rev. Robert Crusenberry and his wife Patricia of Bluff City and Harvey Crusenberry and his wife Lisa of Piney Flats; five step-grandchildren, Julie, Sabrina, Allison, Jacob and Lindsey; two nieces, Laura Mann and Darlene Pullon, and two nephews, Randy Booher and Larry Booher. Jack Samuel Dixon Sr. BRISTOL, Tenn. – Jack Samuel Dixon Sr., 75, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bristol Virginia, a son of the late Pierce Samuel Dixon and Margie Kate Hagy. He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and attended Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. After serving in the Korean War with the Army, he worked for Unisys as a computer technician. Jack was a good husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Dixon; a son, Sam Dixon Jr. and his fiancée Lee Greene of Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Helen Norton, of Bristol Virginia; six brothers, Kenny Dixon of Bristol Virginia and Don Dixon, Winford Dixon, Wayne Dixon, Bill Dixon and Teddy Dixon, all of Bristol Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews. Hargis Flanary Hargis Flanary, 88, went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon, April 13, 2004, at Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville. He was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., but had lived in Gate City most of his life. Mr. Flanary served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired from Gate City Hardware Company. He was a member of the Kingsport Armature Radio Club, with call letters WB-4CDS. Mr. Flanary was a member of the Gate City United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josie Bledsoe Flanary, his parents, Gray and Mattie Flanary, and one brother, William Flanary. He was born in Tazewell County and was the son of the late Bruce and Nannie Lawson Newman, both Tazewell County natives. He had made his home in the Richlands area most of his life and was retired from the S&S/Ingersoll Rand Corporation at Claypool Hill, Va. He was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Richlands High School. He was a member of UMWA Local 1737 at Castlewood and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister. Prather ABINGDON – Mrs. Muriel Moyle Prather, age 85, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at her home. She was born in Mattawan, Mich., to the late Harry and Julia Moyle. She lived there until she and her husband, Olin, moved to Midland, Texas, where they lived for 15 years. They then returned to Mattawan for 10 years, following that they lived in Prestonsburg, Ky., where they stayed until moving to Abingdon in 1980. Muriel was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed doll-making, crafts and card- playing with her friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin, three brothers, Richard Moyle, Larry Moyle and Dan Moyle, and Joyce Widener, who was a loving care giver and friend. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ramona Moyle Wright of Vicksburg, Mich., and nieces and nephews, Linda Schuring, Marykay Boven, Daniel Moyle, David Moyle, Richard Moyle, Carolyn Solomon and Harry Moyle. Smith, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in a Myrtle Beach hospital. Mrs. Smith was born on June 15, 1926, in Indiantown, S.C., a daughter of the late Liston Hampton and Ruby Brown Bartell. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and a good friend to all who knew her. She loved children and spent many years of her life as a kindergarten teacher. She was a graduate of Indiantown High School and Winthrop College. Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of Indiantown Presbyterian Church and was an associate member of the Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church. Syble had a zest for life, enjoying church activities, playing bridge and going out to eat with family and friends. Surviving are two sons, Randall W. (Mary Sue) Smith of Abingdon and Liston B. (Karen) Smith of Hendersonville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Ashley Smith of New York City, Sarah (Reid) Mansell of Pfafftown, N.C., and Parker and Zachary Smith, both of Hendersonville; a great-grandchild, Allison Mansell of Pfafftown; two sisters, Kathleen (Clarendon) Graham of Florence, S.C., and Ruby (Freddie) Moore of Loris, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Leta Bartell of Hemingway, and several nieces and nephews.
