Evelyn Hagy Booher BRISTOL, Tenn. – Evelyn "Pat" Hagy Booher, 86, died April 17, 2004, at Grace Healthcare, Abingdon. She was a native of Washington County, Va., but had lived most of her life in the Bristol area and was a daughter of the late Arthur Ray and Blanche Gobble Hagy. She was a graduate of Greendale High School and Bristol Commercial College and was a member of Greendale United Methodist Church. She was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Booher. Survivors include her sister, Christine Hagy Talton of San Leandro, Calif.; niece, Kay Ecker of California; nephews, Billy W. Hagy and Jere R. Counts, both of Abingdon, Michael Talton of Iowa and David Talton of California, and several other nieces and nephews. Bowman, age 82, of 687 Furnace Creek Road, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Butler, Tenn., he was born Sept. 2, 1921, to the late Thomas and Mollie Moody Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Derwin Bowman, Darcy Bowman, Dalton Bowman and Thomas Bowman Jr., two sisters, Sergie Bowman and Sudie Russell, one niece, Lois Ann Bowman, and daughter-in-law, Robin Bowman. Dennis was a former employee of Speery Univac of Bristol Tennessee, and was an employee of the Johnson County Health Department and a lifelong farmer. He was a deacon at the Community Church of Shouns, Tenn. Dennis was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, where he was also the recipient of the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Katherine Landers Bowman of the home; three daughters, Chanetta Bowman of the home, Denise Dugger of Mountain City and Maricka Bowman of Butler; one son, Lamarr Bowman of Mountain City; son-in-law, Steve Crisp of Mountain City; one sister, Georgia Bowman of Houston; one brother, Ernest Bowman of Flint, Mich., three grandchildren, Kaleena Dugger of Mountain City, Cheynne Bowman of Konnarock, Va., and Zackary Combs of Butler, and several nieces and nephews. He had made his home in Bristol since 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-47, serving in Manila and Okinawa with the 746th Engineer Base Equipment Co. Mr. Harrison was employed with Culligan Soft Water Service from 1949-86, and with Tri-City Water Conditioning from 1986 until his death. He attended Fellowship Chapel Church. In addition to his parents, his first wife, Jaunita (Giles) Harrison, six brothers and six sisters preceded him in death. Born Jan. 26, 1925, in Russell County to the late Dent Harrison Salyer and the late Lula Belle Burton Salyer, he was a lifelong resident of Russell County and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Mae Salyer and Cornelia Meade. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Salyer; three daughters, Elizabeth and husband Bill Gobble, Castlewood, Freda and husband John Heckford, Lebanon, and Reva Meade, Marion; two sons, Turner Gilmer Salyer Jr. and wife Gladys and Clyde Salyer and wife Kathy, all of Castlewood; 19 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; one sister, Maxie Jessee and husband Buford, Nickelsville; three brothers, W.B. Salyer and wife Wanda, Corbin Salyer and wife Helen and Emmit Salyer and wife Sonja, all of Castlewood; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Ross officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post 9864 will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Grandsons, family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Ann Shelley BRISTOL, Tenn. – Ann May Harman Shelley, age 87, formerly of North Tazewell, Va., died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at the Cambridge House in Bristol Tennessee. She was born at Tazewell County, Va., and was the daughter of the late William Thompson Harman and Eva Belle May Harman. Mrs. Shelley had made her home in Tazewell County most of her life. She was retired from Clinch Valley Pharmacy and was a member of the Tazewell American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church of Tazewell and the Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray G. Cassell, and her second husband, John Shelley. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Monk, and brothers, Gorden Harman and K.B. Harman. Survivors include daughter, Phyllis Ann Campbell Morris and husband Randy of Bristol Virginia; son, Ray Vaughn Cassell and wife Virginia of Wytheville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was born in Poland and was a citizen of the U.S. She had lived in Michigan since 1952 and had been in Bristol for the last four years.
