Mr. Adams was employed with Columbus McKinnon in Damascus. Survivors include: his loving wife, Virginia D. Cassell CLEVELAND, Va. – Letha M. Cassell, age 89, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2004, in the Maple Grove Health Care Center in Lebanon. Born Jan. 16, 1915, in Wilder in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late George Carson Cassell and the late Virginia Whitt Cassell, She attended the Weavers Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ezra, Howard, Buster, Jack, Bob, Dave and Ralph Cassell, and two sisters, Grace Seaver and Blanche Seaver. Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Dean Cassell, Cleveland, Georgia Cassell, Church Hill, Tenn., and Nola Cassell, Lebanon, also several nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff of Mountain View Retirement Home and the staff of the Maple Grove Retirement Center for the care given to Letha. She was born May 1, 1913, on Weaver’s Creek, in Russell County, Va., to the late John P. and Edna Cook Kendrick. She was married to Lon N. Dooley, who preceded her in death in 1984. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Musick of Finney, Va., and Ruth Combs of Cleveland, Va., and a sister-in-law, Agnes Flick of Kingsport. Survivors include one son, John and his wife Sue Emory Dooley of Foley, Ala.; two daughters, Nancy and her husband Paul Tobergte of Yankeetown, Fla., and Carla Sue MacCue of the home; five granddaughters and their husbands, Paula and Tom O’Keefe of Glendale, Calif., Lisa and Roger Green of Cincinnati, Amelia and Dennis Daniel of Broken Bow, Okla., Lara and Patrick Hutchins of Valley Cottage, N.Y., and Amanda Dooley of Cincinnati, and nine great-grandchildren, Ian Green, Calvin, Chloe and Celia Hutchins, Will and Adam Daniel and Olivia, Lillian and Adele O’Keefe. She is also survived by her sister, Nadyne Combs of Abingdon; her brother and his wife, Claude and Mildred Kendrick of Dublin, Va.; five sisters- in-law and one brother-in-law, Mary Barron, Ada Axsom, Frances Wood, Cupid Bryant and Peggy Bradley, all of Kingsport, and Charles Dooley of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her dear close friends, Linda and Guy Skeens of Lebanon, and their daughter and her husband, Rebecca and Kurt Kahns of Lynchburg, Va., as well as all her many friends in the Carterton community. Bennie was a lifelong resident of Russell County, having attended the Baptist Mission School in Council, Va., and graduating from Honaker High School. During World War II, she and Lon lived in Baltimore for three years and, upon returning home, moved to Carterton, where Bennie had lived for 60 years. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as director of the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Bennie was a member of the Springfield-Pleasant Hill Women’s Missionary Union and she served for 13 years as director of the New Lebanon Association WMU. He was the son of the late Marshall and Neta Carrier Godsey and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was a retired furniture salesman with Ball Brothers and had been a member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church for over 56 years, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Godsey was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II. She retired to Bristol Virginia in 1981. Her husband, Phillip Rushing, parents, Fulton and Sarah Byrum, brothers, Lewis and Pressley Byrum, and sisters, Luella Stevens, Viola Phillips and Hazeline Hudson, preceded her in death. He was a native of Washington County, Va., and had lived in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1976 to 1992, when he moved back to Damascus. He was the son of the late Henry Clifton Slagle and Josie Ellen Gilland Slagle. He was a former member of the Damascus Volunteer Rescue Squad and his hobbies were fishing and working in the yard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Damascus. He is survived by his wife, Sabrina Slagle; one son, Scott Grass of Damascus; one daughter, Nicole Slagle of Damascus; two sisters, Brenda Trivett and Rita Kay Cornett, both of Damascus; two brothers, Larry Slagle of Cleveland and Ronnie Slagle of Louisville, Ky.; a special sister-in-law, Ramona Slagle, of Cleveland, and several nieces and nephews. "Mose" was born at "Maiden Spring" in Tazewell County, and was the daughter of the late Rees Tate Bowen V and Mary Cecil Ward Bowen. She was a graduate of the College of William and Mary and the University of North Carolina and taught in Quincy and Hollywood, Fla., and retired from the Russell County school system. She was a member of the Elk Garden United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Russell County Woman’s Club and helped in its formation, a member of the Fort Maiden Spring Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a sister in Kappa Alpha Theta. She is survived by a son, John Henry Anderson Smith III and his wife Patricia of Rosedale; two grandchildren, John Henry Anderson Smith IV of Rosedale and William Isaac Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Irene Cecil Bowen Wendell of Rosedale, and a brother, Rees Tate Bowen VI of Tazewell. Lucille Weller NORTON – Lucille Robinette Persinger Weller, 45, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2004, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. She was a retired property manager. She was preceded in death by her father, Landon Robinette, a brother, Douglas Robinette, and a sister, Cleo Thomlinson. Surviving are her husband, Jack Weller; a daughter, Heather Persinger of College Park, Md.; two sons, William Snavely of Rye Cove, Va., and Paul L. Persinger of College Park; her mother, Mary Dooley Robinette of Norton; two brothers, Wayne Robinette and Preston Robinette, both of Norton; three sisters, Edna Collins of Wise, Betty Kern of Fort Blackmore, Va., and Doris Collins of Norton. A song service for Lucille Robinette Persinger Weller will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise.
