Austin, age 87, 156 Wilson Ave., died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at her residence following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Bessie L. Minton Scoggins. She was of the Baptist faith, a homemaker and a mother. Mrs. Austin was an avid Braves fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Austin, two infant sons, Christopher Austin and Charles Austin, one brother, Clarence P. Scoggins, an infant sister, and a son-in-law, Charles E. Eggers. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Surry Austin, Las Cruces, N.M., and Gary Austin, Elizabethton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Eggers, Elizabethton, Brenda and Jerry Blevins, Elizabethton, and Cindy and Darryll Larkin, Watauga; eight grandchildren, David J. William Seth Bailey BIG STONE GAP – William Seth Bailey, 21, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital. He was a life-long resident of Big Stone Gap, a 2002 graduate of Powell Valley High School and was a student at Mountain Empire Community College. He was currently employed with Food City in Big Stone Gap and was a former employee of the Town of Big Stone Gap Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of the Big Stone Gap Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Troy C. Bailey; and his maternal grandfather, Albert A. Bellamy. Surviving are his parents, David and Nancy Bailey, Big Stone Gap; brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Amanda Bailey, Jonesborough, Tenn.; a beloved niece, Alexa; paternal grandmother, Ruby H. Robert Delapp Jr. CHARLOTTESVILLE – Mr. Robert "Bob" Delapp Jr., 84, entered into eternal rest on April 21, 2004. He was the son of the late Jannie Shoemaker Clouden and Robert Delapp Sr. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in France, Rhineland, Scotland and England. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. After the military, he became a certified diesel mechanic and was employed by Pope’s Ready Mix Company until he retired. He was preceded in death by his stepparents, Signora Delapp and William "Bill" Clouden, as well as two infant sons. Bob was united in marriage to Laura Belle Stigger Delapp, and to this union he leaves to cherish his memory, Andrew Allen of Charlottesville, Diane Key and son-in-law, Howard Key of Schuyler, Va., William Delapp of Bristol Virginia, Joanne Delapp-Anderson and Gollar "Go Go" Anderson Jr., son-in-law, of Charlottesville, Jessica Delapp-Rumsey of Charlottesville, and friend, Joe Cannon of Norfolk; Rebecca Newton, stepsister, of Abingdon; Robert Stigger, brother-in-law, of New River, and Hazel Miller, sister-in-law, of New River. David Wayne Hale III ABINGDON – David Wayne Hale III, age 6, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, from injuries sustained in an accident. He was born and had lived in Princeton, W.Va., until moving to Abingdon two years ago. He was kindergarten student at Abingdon Elementary School. David was an avid reader and had shown an interest in becoming a paleontologist. He had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She was born in Swords Creek and was a daughter of the late Robert and Ida Robinette Boyd, both Russell County, Va., natives. She was a life-long resident of the Swords Creek area and was a member of the Raven Assembly of God.
