Willen, 66, Blountville Clifford J. Carr BRISTOL, Tenn. – Clifford J. Carr, age 79, passed away on April 27, 2004, at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born in Abingdon, a son to the late Robert and Lilly Shell Carr. He had spent most of his life in the Bristol area and worked as a painting contractor. Mr. Carr was a member of Fellowship Chapel, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, a deacon and a member of the choir. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and several other medals. Mr. Carr was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Clark Carr. Survivors include daughter, Shirley Ogle and husband Monte of Bristol Tennessee; son, Clifford Wayne Carr and wife Terri of Bristol Tennessee, and grandchildren, Nicole Parsons and husband Phil, Adam Carr and wife Andrea, Steven Ogle and Brian Ogle. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 30, 2004, at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Lester MacKinnon and Rev. Scott Price officiating. Committal services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel. Military honors will be presented by the Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Wayne Carter. Alfred Garrett BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Alfred Eugene (Gene) Garrett, 69, passed away Wednesday, April 28, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Cleveland, Va., he was a son of the late Edmond K. Garrett and Daisy Johnson Garrett of Lebanon. He of the Baptist faith, a graduate of Lebanon (Virginia) High School and also graduated from Bluefield College, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Class of 1954. He was employed by the First National Bank of Bluefield, prior to entering the U.S. Army, had been an investment broker with A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc., and was the branch manager of the A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. office in Bluefield, W.Va. He had been in the brokerage business in Roanoke and Bluefield since returning from the service. He served with the U.S. Army Special Services in France 1956-1958. A sister, Lena G. French, and two brothers, Edmond K. Garrett Jr. and Bobby Burns Garrett, preceded him in death. He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth A. Garrett of Rocky Mount, Va.; three brothers, Marshall S. Garrett of Fort Blackmore, Va., Calvin H. Garrett of Elliston, Va., and J. Roger Garrett and wife Mary of Abingdon; a sister-in-law, Shelby G. Dix of Rocky Mount; four nieces, Debbie Merritt, Rhonda Turner, Amanda Garrett and Sarah Garrett; four nephews, Scott Garrett, Dennis Garrett, Phillip Garrett and Lee Garrett, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
