Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late James M. and Dora Belle Dixon Absher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Conley E. Dye, one son, James P. Dye, also four brothers and five sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family in her generation. Wayne Kiser Sr. DANTE, Va. – Wayne Kiser Sr. went home to be with his Heavenly Father and King Wednesday evening, April 28, 2004, after a lengthy illness. He was born on April 9, 1944, in Russell County, Va., son of the late Walter and Lucy LaForce Kiser. He joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school, where he served two tours in Vietnam as a gunnery sergeant. Later, he joined the United States Park Police in Washington, D.C. After a few years of owning his own trucking company, he did what he loved most, preaching and teaching about his Lord. He was preceded in death by three brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Corene J. Kiser; one daughter, Kimberly Hall and husband Ray of Ringgold, Ga.; two sons, Harlon Wayne Kiser Jr. and wife Cynthia of St. Paul, Va., and Duane Kiser of Nashville; one sister, Lynn Nance and husband Tommy of Moravian Falls, N.C.; one brother, Sammy Kiser and wife Shirley of Taylorsville, N.C.; one half brother, Mark O’Quinn of Fredricksburg, Va.; one stepdaughter, Delaine Ward of Pound; one stepson, Ward D. John Bradley Rector SALTVILLE – Mr. John Bradley Rector, age 81, died Friday, April 30, 2004. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Collins Rector, and his parents, Carl and Lucy Rector. He was an Army veteran of World War II and worked for Olin Corporation and retired from American Furniture. He was also co-owner Rector’s Heat & Air Conditioning. He loved farming and gardening. Winifred Shankman Winifred Edey Shankman, age 82, formerly of Bristol Tennessee and Marion, died Thursday, April 29, 2004, in the New River Valley Regional Medical Center, Radford, Va. Winifred (Wynne) was a native of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She came with her husband, Leo Shankman, to Southwest Virginia in the mid-1950s. After their three sons graduated high school in Marion, Mr. and Mrs. Shankman moved to 46 Wellington, Bristol Tennessee, and lived there for many years. Wynne shared her love of flowers and compassion for humanity with both the communities of Marion and Bristol Tennessee/Virginia. She held many local and statewide positions with the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary Organization in both communities. Before she became disabled, she was well-known for her dried flower arrangements, which were sold to fund the charitable efforts of the Pink Ladies at Bristol Memorial Hospital and Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Shankman was also a member of B’NAI Sholom Congregation for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Carl Shankman. Survivors include two sons, Byron R. Shankman of Pulaski, Va., and Michael Shankman of Greenlawn, N.Y.; one brother, Stuart Edey of Mantoac, Canada; six grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
