Arnold WYTHEVILLE – Reverend Andrew Jackson Arnold, age 76, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004, at his residence. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced later by Bradley’s Funeral Home, Marion. Betty Logan Brooks The family of Betty Logan Brooks will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Monday evening at Oakley-Blevins Funeral Home, with the funeral service to begin at 8 o’clock. Mr. Dwane Orfield will officiate. The committal service and interment will be held at 11 Tuesday morning in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dustin Pendergrass, Richard Hodge, Bob Booher, Walter Newland, Jimmy Lail and Tracy Bratton. Betty Logan Brooks, 71, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 30, 2004, from NHC of Bristol. Mrs. Brooks and her family are in the care of Oakley-Blevins Funeral Home, 417 Lee St., Bristol Virginia. Ruth D. Creger ABINGDON – Mrs. Ruth Davenport Creger, age 80, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 16, 1924, in Russell County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Edward M. Davenport and Martha Puckett Davenport. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Morgan Creger, a brother, Ford Davenport, and two sisters, Hazel Pruitt and Mary Lee Easterly. Mrs. Creger was a 1949 graduate of Greendale High School, where she was the class valedictorian and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the James H. Peters Post of the Disabled American Veterans. She had retired from the Washington County Library after 20 years of service and was a longtime member of the Temple Baptist Church. She is survived by her niece, Jeannine Widener and husband Gene of Abingdon; other nieces and nephew, Joan, Sue, Judy and Don Easterly; her stepchildren, Elizabeth Ritoli and husband Michael of Fredericksburg, Va., and John Charles Creger and wife Jeanette of Beaver Dam, Va., and four step-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Temple Baptist Church, with Rev. John Wesley Price officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Katherine Maiden SALTVILLE – Katherine Charlene Barker Maiden, age 80, and born Feb.13, 1924, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, in Roanoke. Mrs. Maiden was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Maiden, and an infant daughter, Mary Beth Maiden. Mrs. Maiden was a member of the Main Street Christian church. Born in Meadowview, she was a lifelong resident of Saltville. She is survived by her son, Roy A. (Skip) Maiden, Glade Spring; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Don Bateman, Salem, Va.; her beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Kelley Hatfield Galyen and her husband Danny, Gainesville, Fla., grandson, Brandon Hatfield, Mobile, Ala., and her youngest grandson, John Hatfield and his wife Krystal of Salem; two sisters, Edith White, Marion and Wynotta Morrell, Nashville; two brothers, Fred Barker, Roanoke and David Wayne Barker, Saltville, and several nieces and nephews. "Sweet Pea" Nelson died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at De Soto Hospital, Arcadia, Fla. Born March 23, 1915, in Big Stone Gap, she had resided most of her life in Piney Flats. She and her husband, J. Matthew "Hot Shot" Nelson, owned and operated Holston Auto Supply Company in Kingsport from 1959 until 1984, but had been involved in the business since 1946. Helen was a loving wife and companion who enjoyed spending time with family and wonderful friends. She was also a very caring person, who never hesitated to help her family and friends. Family and friends will miss her so much and will always have fond memories of the good times spent together. Preceding her in death was her husband, J. Matthew "Hot Shot" Nelson. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, with Earl Mumpower Jr. officiating. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery. Ava Rosenbalm BRISTOL, Tenn. – Ava Marie Shaver Rosenbalm, age 78, of 427 Sinking Springs Road Ext., went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Cambridge House. She was born Feb. 6, 1926, a daughter of the late John F. and Katie Richardson Shaver, and had made her home in Bristol all of her life. Mrs. Rosenbalm was retired cafeteria worker at Holston Valley Middle School, a member of Landmark Mission Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Parks Rosenbalm. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Rouse and husband Cecil; three sons, Billy Rosenbalm and wife Betty, Dale Rosenbalm and wife Robin and Randy Rosenbalm; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Shaver and wife Betty, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roger Carter, Rev. Mike Able and Rev. Billy Rosenbalm officiating. Williams MARION – Virginia Lindamood Williams, age 84, passed away Friday, April 30, 2004, in the Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C.. She was born in Wytheville to the late Gardner Castle and Polly Null Lindamood, and was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Sprinkle Williams, four sisters, one brother and a grandson, Christian Williams. She was loving mother and homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Daniel S. Williams and wife Jeannie, Charleston, S.C., and Marvin D. Williams and wife Betty, Statesville; two grandsons, Michael D. Williams and wife Andra and Eric Williams; two great-grandsons and a host of relatives in Smyth and Wythe Counties. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Round Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating.
